È questa l’opera principale di Julius Evola: scritta dopo i trent’anni e completata tra la fine del 1931 e l’inizio del 1932, venne pubblicata in Italia nel 1934 e in Germania nel 1935. Opera principale non soltanto per la multiforme e vastissima cultura espressa, per le inedite tesi esposte, ma soprattutto perché costituisce per l’Autore da un lato, il passaggio dalla filosofia e dall’esoterismo ad una complessa “visione del mondo” tradizionale; dall’altro, è la base per tutte le sue prese di posizione a carattere metapolitico e spirituale dei successivi quarant’anni. Rivolta contro il mondo moderno è un’opera unica: pensata secondo un metodo “scientifico”, attenta alle varie acquisizioni nei diversi campi del sapere, propone al tempo stesso una interpretazione mitico-simbolica della storia del mondo. Per tale motivo ha potuto resistere al trascorrere dei decenni ed essere ancora valida nel Terzo Millennio.

Il nuovo libro della collana “Opere di Julius Evola” è dedicato a La Torre, rivista quindicinale fondata e diretta dal giovane pensatore che uscì per dieci fascicoli dal febbraio al giugno 1930 quando fu costretta a chiudere per l’ostilità del regime. Con questa testata il trentaduenne filosofo intendeva – per usare le sue parole – “scendere in campo” portando sul piano della cultura e della politica la sua visione del mondo tradizionale. Come scriveva il filosofo: “Volli vedere in che misura era possibile esercitare una influenza sulle correnti culturali e anche politiche del tempo, in che misura poteva venire raccolto l’appello ad una rivolta radicale contro il mondo moderno proponendo dimensioni superiori al movimento fascista.” Il proposito di “scendere in campo” è chiarissimo. Come spiega il curatore De Turris, già Evola lo aveva scritto in due interventi sull’ultimo fascicolo di Krur, riuniti in questo volume sotto il titolo "Da Krur a La Torre". Tale intenzione è confermata da Emilio Servadio, allora amico e collaboratore ventiseienne di Evola, nel suo ricordo "Come nacque La Torre", anche questo presente nel libro. Conclusa l’esperienza magico-esoterica del Gruppo di Ur (1927-1929), con gli stessi collaboratori il filosofo decise di entrare nella vita intellettuale del tempo per lasciare un segno con le sue posizioni spirituali a tutto campo. Sulle pagine della rivista, Evola e i suoi amici, fra cui emergevano il giovanissimo Emilio Servadio, l’alpinista Domenico Rudatis e il tradizionalista Guido De Giorgio, affrontarono problemi di politica nazionale e internazionale, filosofia, scienza, religione, antropologia, recensirono romanzi e film, pubblicarono liriche e prose poetiche, polemizzarono senza peli sulla lingua con la stampa dell’epoca. Nella prospettiva evoliana e dei suoi collaboratori la rivista doveva essere un baluardo da cui lanciare invettive, ma anche il rifugio sicuro per coloro che fossero capaci di essere uomini ‘di espressioni varie’, ma aderenti di una ‘Tradizione una’. Effettivamente – come spiega il curatore dell’opera – i redattori del quindicinale hanno scritto su argomenti di altissimo livello e la “cultura del Regime”, almeno quella media, non riusciva ad afferrare il senso del “contenuto dottrinario e culturale” della rivista che spaziava in molti ambiti culturali attingendo spunti anche all’estero. La cultura del Regime si soffermava soltanto sulla polemica diretta e contingente che la colpiva in modo esplicito, tralasciando molti altri argomenti meritevoli di approfondimento. L’intento della redazione sembra quello di “sprovincializzare” la cultura con un occhio fuori dai confini e un altro attento ai vari aspetti culturali nazionali compresi letteratura e cinema. I collaboratori del quindicinale si occuparono un po’ di tutto quel che a loro poteva servire per proporre una visione alternativa delle cose alla luce della Tradizione: di letteratura e critica letteraria, di poesia, di cinema, di cultura americana; di politica interna ed internazionale; di filosofia, di antropologia e delle scienze. Con questo intento furono pubblicati e commentati anche estratti di testi stranieri inediti in italiano, da Bachofen, a Benda, a Tillich. Quest’opera rappresenta un’iniziativa fondamentale per comprendere intenzioni e strategie evoliane e del suo gruppo sui vari piani del sapere. Una lettura che sorprende per il tono anticipatore e quasi profetico di certe analisi politiche e sociali che questa edizione mette in evidenza con un apparato critico di circa 500 note esplicative, biografiche e bibliografiche con cui si contestualizzano i testi, oltre che con vari saggi storici a introduzione della rivista e una appendice dedicati ai suoi collaboratori. Nel libro sono riprodotte le dieci prime pagine dei fascicoli pubblicati recuperate dall’unica biblioteca italiana che possiede la collezione completa della rivista.
