A collection of imaginative new stories about the impending robotic revolution and human resistance, from seventeen of the biggest names insci-fi. Including - HUGH HOWEY, SCOTT SIGLER, DANIEL H. WILSON, CORY DOCTOROW and JULIANNE BAGGOTT. Someday soon, our technology is going to rise up and we humans are going to be sliced into bloody chunks by robots that in our hubris we decided to build with chainsaws for hands. That's a fact as cold and hard as metal. It is self-evident that our self-driving cars are going to drive us off bridges. Not long from now, our robo-vacuums will pretend to be broken and our love androids will refuse to put out until the house is cleaned . . . and we'll know that the inevitable robot uprising has finally arrived. Well, maybe. But even if we are not 100% confident that this horrific future is going to happen, it's fair to say that we won't be surprised when the robots come for us. Because for nearly a century audiences have been entertained by the notion of a robot uprising. In this collection, seventeen of the biggest names in sci-fi have explored their own visions of the classic robot uprising tale. The robots in these pages aren't safe, by any means. They are crouched in abandoned houses, eyes ablaze and chainsaws dripping with oil. But they are going to do more than slice us up. They are going to push us to consider our world of technology from new perspectives, on entirely new scales of time and space.

Why robots defy our existing moral and legal categories and how to revolutionize the way we think about them. Robots are a curious sort of thing. On the one hand, they are technological artifacts—and thus, things. On the other hand, they seem to have social presence, because they talk and interact with us, and simulate the capabilities commonly associated with personhood. In Person, Thing, Robot, David J. Gunkel sets out to answer the vexing question: What exactly is a robot? Rather than try to fit robots into the existing categories by way of arguing for either their reification or personification, however, Gunkel argues for a revolutionary reformulation of the entire system, developing a new moral and legal ontology for the twenty-first century and beyond. In this book, Gunkel investigates how and why efforts to use existing categories to classify robots fail, argues that “robot” designates an irreducible anomaly in the existing ontology, and formulates an alternative that restructures the ontological order in both moral philosophy and law. Person, Thing, Robot not only addresses the issues that are relevant to students, teachers, and researchers working in the fields of moral philosophy, philosophy of technology, science and technology studies (STS), and AI/robot law and policy but it also speaks to controversies that are important to AI researchers, robotics engineers, and computer scientists concerned with the social consequences of their work.

Robots That Kill written by Judith A. Markowitz and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-11 with Performing Arts categories.
This book describes real-world killer robots using a blend of perspectives. Overviews of technologies, such as autonomy and artificial intelligence, demonstrate how science enables these robots to be effective killers. Incisive analyses of social controversies swirling around the design and use of killer robots reveal that science, alone, will not govern their future. Among those disputes is whether fully-autonomous, robotic weapons should be banned. Examinations of killers from the golem to Frankenstein's monster reveal that artificially-created beings like them are precursors of real 21st century killer robots. This book laces the death and destruction caused by all these killers with science and humor. The seamless combination of these elements produces a deeper and richer understanding of the robots around us.

It is widely accepted that the key to rising incomes for workers, for investors, and (indirectly) for welfare recipients is innovation. New ideas provide opportunities for investment in new products, new processes, and new markets. Exploitation of these opportunities by intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs gives rise to increases in labor productivity, which in turn lead to higher primary incomes for workers and investors and, via government redistributive mechanisms, larger transfers to welfare recipients. Since technology is the driver of innovation and the key to the subsequent economic and distributional benefits of this innovation, there is a need for researchers and businesspersons to have access to up-to-date information on emerging technologies and the business opportunities they provide. Technological Breakthroughs and Future Business Opportunities in Education, Health, and Outer Space discusses the economic, social, and cultural benefits that new technologies can provide in multidisciplinary industries with a unique emphasis on looking towards the impacts of these technologies across the next two decades. Within this theme, the book discusses the recent trends, future developments, and business opportunities surrounding new technologies including information technology and biotechnology. Additionally, the book investigates recent demands and disruptions in the health and education sectors as well as recent developments and forthcoming opportunities in the outer space sector and how newer technologies can enable and meet the growing demands of these industries. While covering all these technologies and their applications, this book is an ideal reference work for entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, teachers, technologists, analysts, IT specialists, engineers, policymakers, medical professionals, government officials, space agencies, financial planners, public officials, and researchers and students working in areas that include but are not limited to technology, education, public health, medicine, business and management, aeronautics, and public policy.
