The objective of this work was to develop the technology for depositing a dielectric narrow-band reflector on thin glass foil without unmanageable stress and bond this filter face-in to a cylindrically curved polycarbonate substrate to form an environmentally durable laminated visor. A dielectric coating that blocked three laser wavelengths (532 nm, 694 nm, and 1064 mn) was applied to paper- thin glass foil. Methods were developed for cementing this glass filter to the polycarbonate insert for the Sun, Wind and Dust Goggle, and trimming away the excess glass foil. In every case, the bonded glass film cracked and separated from the polycarbonate substrate. Failure analysis performed on the fractured glass indicated that the primary mechanism of failure involved microfractures at the glass edge. Several methods were used to prevent their formation or inhibit their growth, without success. The effort to construct the visor was unsuccessful.

Optimization Of Optical Density Requirements For Multi Wavelength Laser written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with categories.

Multiwavelength laser exposures pose unique safety challenges for both laser experts and users of laser systems. We describe two methods of optimizing optical density requirements for multiwavelength laser exposures. The problem is first formulated and solved using standard mathematical programming techniques, and the results are compared to those from a simplified algorithm. The result is a method that can be efficiently integrated into existing laser modeling and hazard analysis software. As an example, overall visible light transmittance is maximized while maintaining eye-safe viewing conditions during a multiwavelength exposure, simultaneously minimizing the total optical density required for sufficient laser eye protection. This optimization formulation helps laser system users determine the proper laser eye protection for safe viewing in multiwavelength laser environments.

This report describes research efforts directed toward the development of spectacles that provide eye protection from laser emissions. Multilayer interference coatings were applied to both plastic and glass substrates. The multilayer coatings provide protection for the user by reflecting the specific laser emission wavelengths. The remaining visible wavelengths that are not reflected are used for observation light. A glass coating/plastic laminate structure was developed and mounted in the combat spectacle frame. Both plano and opthalmic corrected composites can be provided. The laminated filter developed provides multiwavelength rejection, good luminuous scotopic transmittance, durable and environmentally stable protection for the multilayer coating and increased ballistic protection for the user.

This book provides information on the basic science and tissue interactions of dental lasers and documents the principal current clinical uses of lasers in every dental discipline. The applications of lasers in restorative dentistry, endodontics, dental implantology, pediatric dentistry, periodontal therapy, and soft tissue surgery are clearly described and illustrated. Information is also provided on laser-assisted multi-tissue management, covering procedures such as crown lengthening, gingival troughing, gingival recontouring, and depigmentation. The closing chapters look forward to the future of lasers in dentistry and the scope for their widespread use in everyday clinical practice. When used in addition to or instead of conventional instrumentation, lasers offer many unique patient benefits. Furthermore, research studies continue to reveal further potential clinical applications, and new laser wavelengths are being explored, developed, and delivered with highly specific power configurations to optimize laser–tissue interaction. This book will bring the reader up to date with the latest advances and will appeal to all with an interest in the application of lasers to the oral soft and/or hard tissues.
