OO It is a matter of general consensus that in the last decade the H _ optimization for robust control has dominated the research effort in control systems theory. Much attention has been paid equally to the mathematical instrumentation and the computational aspects. There are several excellent monographs that cover the standard topics in the area. Among the recent issues we have to cite here Linear Robust Control authored by Green and Limebeer (Prentice Hall 1995), Robust Controller Design Using Normalized Coprime Factor Plant Descriptions - by McFarlane and Glover (Springer Verlag 1989), Robust and Optimal Control - by Zhou, Doyle and Glover (Prentice Hall 1996). Thus, when the authors of the present monograph decided to start the work they were confronted with a very rich literature on the subject. However two reasons motivated their initiative. The first concerns the theory in which the whole development of the book was embedded. As is well known, there are several ways of approach oo ing H and robust control theory. Here we mention three relevant direc tions chronologically ordered: a) the first makes use of a generalization of the Beurling-Lax theorem to Krein spaces; b) the second makes use of a generalization of Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation theory and commutant lifting theorem; c) the third, and probably the most attractive from an el evate engineering viewpoint, is the two Riccati equations based approach which offers a complete solution in state space form.

This book is a collection of 34 papers presented by leading researchers at the International Workshop on Robust Control held in San Antonio, Texas in March 1991. The common theme tying these papers together is the analysis, synthesis, and design of control systems subject to various uncertainties. The papers describe the latest results in parametric understanding, H8 uncertainty, l1 optical control, and Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT). The book is the first to bring together all the diverse points of view addressing the robust control problem and should strongly influence development in the robust control field for years to come. For this reason, control theorists, engineers, and applied mathematicians should consider it a crucial acquisition for their libraries.

Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory and Applications, Volume 50: Robust Control System Techniques and Applications, Part 1 of 2 is a two-volume sequence devoted to the issues and application of robust control systems techniques. This volume is composed of 10 chapters and begins with a presentation of the important techniques for dealing with conflicting design objectives in control systems. The subsequent chapters describe the robustness techniques of systems using differential-difference equations; the design of a wide class of robust nonlinear systems, the techniques for dealing with the problems resulting from the use of observers in robust systems design, and the effective techniques for the robust control on non-linear time varying of tracking control systems with uncertainties. These topics are followed by discussions of the effective techniques for the robust control on non-linear time varying of tracking control systems with uncertainties and for incorporating adaptive control techniques into a (non-adaptive) robust control design. Other chapters present techniques for achieving exponential and robust stability for a rather general class of nonlinear systems, techniques in modeling uncertain dynamics for robust control systems design, and techniques for the optimal synthesis of these systems. The last chapters provide a generalized eigenproblem solution for both singular and nonsingular system cases. These chapters also look into the stability robustness design for discrete-time systems. This book will be of value to process and systems engineers, designers, and researchers.

Optimization Based Clearance Of Flight Control Laws written by Andreas Varga and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book summarizes the main achievements of the EC funded 6th Framework Program project COFCLUO – Clearance of Flight Control Laws Using Optimization. This project successfully contributed to the achievement of a top-level objective to meet society’s needs for a more efficient, safer and environmentally friendly air transport by providing new techniques and tools for the clearance of flight control laws. This is an important part of the certification and qualification process of an aircraft – a costly and time-consuming process for the aeronautical industry. The overall objective of the COFCLUO project was to develop and apply optimization techniques to the clearance of flight control laws in order to improve efficiency and reliability. In the book, the new techniques are explained and benchmarked against traditional techniques currently used by the industry. The new techniques build on mathematical criteria derived from the certification and qualification requirements together with suitable models of the aircraft. The development of these criteria and models are also presented in the book. Because of wider applicability, the optimization-based clearance of flight control laws will open up the possibility to design innovative aircraft that today are out of the scope using classical clearance tools. Optimization-based clearance will not only increase safety but it will also simplify the whole certification and qualification process, thus significantly reduce cost. The achieved speedup will also support rapid modeling and prototyping and reduce “time to market”.

Most practical processes such as chemical reactor, industrial furnace, heat exchanger, etc., are nonlinear stochastic systems, which makes their con trol in general a hard problem. Currently, there is no successful design method for this class of systems in the literature. One common alterna tive consists of linearizing the nonlinear dynamical stochastic system in the neighborhood of an operating point and then using the techniques for linear systems to design the controller. The resulting model is in general an approximation of the real behavior of a dynamical system. The inclusion of the uncertainties in the model is therefore necessary and will certainly improve the performance of the dynamical system we want to control. The control of uncertain systems has attracted a lot of researchers from the control community. This topic has in fact dominated the research effort of the control community during the last two decades, and many contributions have been reported in the literature. Some practical dynamical systems have time delay in their dynamics, which makes their control a complicated task even in the deterministic case. Recently, the class ofuncertain dynamical deterministic systems with time delay has attracted some researchers, and some interesting results have been reported in both deterministic and stochastic cases. But wecan't claim that the control problem ofthis class ofsystems is completely solved; more work must be done for this class of systems.

This book provides a clear understanding in formulating stability analysis and state feedback control of retarded time delay systems using Lyapunov’s second method in an LMI framework. The chapters offer a clear overview of the evolution of stability analysis in terms of the construction of a Lyapunov functional and use of the integral inequalities in order to reduce the gap of delay upper bound estimate compared to frequency domain method through existing and proposed stability theorems. Power system engineering problem has been presented here to give readers fair idea on applicability of the model and method for solving engineering problems. Without deviating from the framework of analysis more complex dynamics of the system have been dealt with here that includes actuator saturation and thereby ascertaining local stability for an estimated time-delay and domain of attraction. Nonlinearity in a time-delay system has been dealt with in the T-S fuzzy modeling approach. This book is useful as a textbook for Master’s students and advanced researcher working in the field of control system engineering, and for practicing engineers dealing with such complex dynamical systems. The strengths of the book are lucidity of presentation, lucidity of solution method, MATLAB programs given in the appendix that help the novice researcher to carry out research in this area independently, clear idea about the formulation of desired stability and control problem in a LMI framework, application problem provided can motivate students and researcher to recast their problems in the similar framework easily, helpful for readers to use the stability (stabilization) conditions or formulate their own stability conditions easily for a complicated linear or nonlinear dynamical system.
