After having met thousands of musicians and celebrities, James Hester decided to write a book about how life in the entertainment industry was not always glamorous to him. His book, "Rock Scars," chronicles his personal journey through entertainment and explores the essentials of being a rock star. While traveling the road to fame and fortune, Hester investigates various facets of entertainment including demographics, religion, sex, politics, and drugs. His writing is a heart-felt memoir giving readers an insider's perspective on an industry that often encourages controversy and exploitation. James has witnessed both the ecstasies as well as the debaucheries of rock 'n roll. Although "Rocks Scars" contains a wealth of serious content, it is also laced with an abundant dose of the author's own dry humor. Hester relied heavily on his humor when he navigated his way through the mire and muck of becoming a superstar. James encourages readers to laugh and to shine like stars throughout his writing.

Introduction To The Physics Of Landslides written by Fabio Vittorio de Blasio and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-05-13 with Science categories.

Landslides represent one of the most destructive natural catastrophes. They can reach extremely long distances and velocities, and are capable of wiping out human communities and settlements. Yet landslides have a creative facet as they contribute to the modification of the landscape. They are the consequence of the gravity pull jointly with the tectonic disturbance of our living planet. Landslides are most often studied within a geotechnical and geomorphological perspective. Engineering calculations are traditionally applied to the stability of terrains. In this book, landslides are viewed as a physical phenomenon. A physical understanding of landslides is a basis for modeling and mitigation and for understanding their flow behavior and dynamics. We still know relatively little about many aspects of landslide physics. It is only recently that the field of landslide dynamics is approaching a more mature stage. This is testified by the release of modelling tools for the simulation of landslides and debris flows. In this book the emphasis is placed on the problems at the frontier of landslide research. Each chapter is self-consistent, with questions and arguments introduced from the beginning.

Rocks are time machines and the keepers of our history. This guide is a geological field trip through Earth’s incredible rock formations and the stories they hold Like rings on a tree stump hold the history of the tree, the history of Earth is written in its rocks. How to Read a Rock: Our Planet’s Hidden Stories teaches readers to decipher the rocks all around us, from backyard stones to mountain ranges, and trace Earth's history layer by layer. Spanning from prehistoric Earth’s shifting continents, to contemporary human impact, to the future surfaces of space exploration, the book reviews a remarkable array of topics, including: diamond volcanoes ancient coastlines, rivers, deserts, and coral reefs how animals have changed rocks making of mud urban rock strata human-made rocks and minerals current limestone rock crisis technofossils (the footprints humans will leave behind through their material goods) How to Read a Rock's brilliant imagery captures the power, majesty, and history of the planet. Rocks carry the memories of dinosaur landscapes and vanished oceans; show evidence of the greening of the planet and the effect of natural forces; and convey clues on climate and energy consumption. The book unearths the most fascinating stories rocks can tell us, not only about our past, but how the past can help imagine the future.
