"Rooted in the Storm" is a 61-day devotional of faith which shares excerpts from an ongoing 300+ day critical care hospitalization of Beth's husband, Chris. Each day includes a devotion that was written during this time as God was growing Beth's faith. This devotional book was written to help you find peace and encouragement in any storm you may face. The daily devotions are a part of Beth's journey in learning the peace that comes from being rooted in Christ regardless of the circumstances.Learning to root yourself each day will change how you experience God in this season. It is only in Him that you will find all you need. If your storm has left you struggling with sleepless nights and a broken heart, this devotional book was written with you in mind. Through this difficult experience, Beth learned to grow her roots deeper into God and begin each day worshiping Him. Her prayer is that this devotional book will help encourage and equip you during your season of storms so that your life will bear great fruit."I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."-John 15:5

This book is about how you can be rooted deeply in Christ. Here are some of the benefits you can look forward to as you become rooted in Christ: Stability. People who are deeply rooted will withstand the storms of life. They are like the wise man that built his house on a rock. They are not shaken by the storms of life. They are not "tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting" (Ephesians 4:14). Continual nourishment. Rooted people have a deep source of spiritual nourishment which continually feeds them. They are like a tree, planted by the streams of water which bears its fruit in season (Psalm 1). Joy. Jesus said, "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full"( John 15:10-11). The happiest people on the planet are people who are rooted in Christ. Fruitfulness. Rooted plants are fruit-bearing plants. "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). Jesus didn't say we would be even more fruitful if we abide in Christ. He said that without Christ we can do nothing. Rooted in Christ, we will bear much fruit. It is an all or nothing deal. Peace. There is peace in knowing that your roots go down deep. There is peace in knowing you can withstand every drought and storm. "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27). The Bible describes it as a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4.6, 7). Assurance of our salvation. God's will for every believer is that you have absolute confidence in your salvation. God wants you to know that you will go to Heaven when you die. Rooted people know. They don't just hope; they know. Spiritual growth. You can't grow up unless your roots go down. Only rooted people grow. "That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:17-19). Purpose. When our roots go down deep, we discover why God put us here. We discover that "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). We discover what good works God has prepared in advance for us to do. There is nothing like living life on purpose. Only rooted people know this joy. Being rooted has many benefits: stability, continual nourishment, joy, fruitfulness, peace, assurance of salvation, and purpose. How do we become rooted?

We live in a society filled with broken people. Over the years the church has had to make a fundamental decision regarding those of us who have faced such trying times. This book, although speaks about divorce, death, financial difficulties, is a book about how someone like me faced one of the most difficult times in my life. This book is not about how unfaithful we are, but rather, how faithful God is. Through some of our darkest times-those caused by our own choices and those allowed by God, we see just how faithful God is. If you are struggling to find answers, if you are struggling to find solutions, this book is written for you. It demonstrates through the Word of God that we could find peace in some of life's most dangerous storms. The storm of death, the storm of divorce, the storm of financial ruin are nothing compared to God's ability to take our broken world and heal it. All too often the church has failed to minister to those of us who are broken, to those of us who have baggage, and to those of us who need deep spiritual, emotional, and psychological healing. This book chronicles my marriage that fell a part when my then wife lost a pregnancy. Watching my marriage fall a part and incapable of fixing it, I journeyed on a 40 day fast. This book is the result of the insight God gave me concerning my hardship. I invite you to take this journey with me and hopefully along the way you discover what I did so many years ago. The very fact that God is faithful and that no matter what you are facing God is on your side.

Madagascar, 2009. As the Global Financial Crisis sinks its teeth into the world economy, no corporation is left untouched. Swiss pharmaceutical giant Wyman Booth Laboratories is teetering on the brink of foreclosure, however there is potential for it to be saved with a highly lucrative research opportunity emerging in the vaporous rainforests of Ranomafana National Park. Meanwhile Danish nurse, Vicki Salling, is dedicated to preserving the unique but fragile biodiversity of the region. Newly assigned as manager of an environmental NGO, she has grown fond of the charming Malagasy people, who are as enigmatic as the natural surroundings they inhabit. However, reforestation is a Sisyphean task that is made all the more difficult by resistance from local farmers and the vested interests of the reckless local gemstone trade. When Vicki meets Luc Legrand, a debonair researcher at Wyman Booth with a murky history, an international saga unfolds in which everyone is implicated. From the executive boardrooms of Big Pharma, to isolated outposts within the dense Madagascan jungle, truths emerge that put innocent lives at risk. But all amounts to nil when faced with the insurmountable force of the jungle, the only true decider of fate. It is the saviour and the barbarian, the refuge and the ultimate destruction, the void into which histories vanish and out of which legends are born. Can Vicki and Luc find safety in obscurity from the global treachery that threatens them, or will all be lost as a tropical storm gathers on the horizon?
