Bezpieczeństwo stało się ostatnio jednym z najbardziej nośnych haseł w nauce. Jest to fenomen o złożonej naturze. Wbrew pozorom, nie wynika on ze wzrostu potencjalnych zagrożeń będących pochodną: wojen, lokalnych konfliktów zbrojnych, przewrotów czy ataków terrorystycznych, gdyż ich liczba legła w ostatnim ćwierćwieczu znaczącemu obniżeniu w stosunku do stanu z jakim miało do czynienia poprzednie pokolenie. Zmniejszyło się też ryzyko epidemiologiczne, a wiele schorzeń, które wtedy równoznaczne były z wyrokiem śmierci, dzisiaj nie są już z nim tożsame.

Magdaleny Najbar-Agičić Autor, podejmując się analizy dość szerokiego kręgu zagadnień oraz stawiając sobie za cel zbadanie źródeł i opracowań zarówno polityk pamięci, jak i pamięci zbiorowych jako efektu tychże polityk, siłą rzeczy zobowiązuje się do analizy pokaźnej liczby dostępnych źródeł ze wskazaniem na pierwszeństwo materiałów opracowanych w danym języku etnicznym. Z tego zadania Tomasz Stryjek wywiązał się bardzo dobrze, dokonując gruntownej i pogłębionej kwerendy źródeł chorwackich i serbskich. Umiejętnie wykorzystał też zgromadzony materiał do prowadzonych przez siebie analiz. Very rarely disclosures of information from behind the Iron Curtain throw new light on the roots of communist thought and action and challenge accepted notions on the operation of the communist system. We believe that this book does both these things. It is nothing if not controversial. It rejects conventional views on subjects ranging from Khrushchev's overthrow to Tito's revisionism, from Dubcek's liberalism to Ceausescu's independence, and from the dissident movement to the Sino-Soviet split. The author's analysis has many obvious implications for Western policy. It will not be readily accepted by those who have for long been committed to opposing points of view.
