INTRODUÇÃO A parasitologia veterinária refere-se ao estudo de agentes etiológicos que acometem os animais domésticos e selvagens, sua morfologia, ciclos biológicos, e correlação com seus hospedeiros. São considerados parasitas aqueles que se alimentam dos seus hospedeiros trazendo prejuízos para esses. A relação é unidirecional porque ocorre prejuízo para o hospedeiro que alberga o parasita. Na parasitologia veterinária são estudados helmintos, protozoários e artrópodes. Na helmintologia destacam-se os platelmintos e os nematelmintos. A protozoologia, ou estudo dos protozoários é importante não só para o conhecimento dos diversos protozoários que acometem os animais, mas também pelo aspecto zoonótico desses agentes infecciosos. A parasitologia veterinária trata também dos artrópodes que acometem os animais. Há de se ressaltar aqui a importância dos carrapatos e das pulgas que estão presentes não só nos animais, mas também no ambiente. Alguns animais sinantrópicos serão relatados devido a sua importância como hospedeiros intermediários, vetores mecânicos ou reservatórios de infecção para os animais domésticos. Dra.
