Run Silent Run Deep written by Edward L. Beach and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-16 with Transportation categories.

This is a book about submarine warfare that was made into a movie starring Bert Lancaster and Clarke Gable. There are similarities with the famous novel Moby Dick, as the commander is determined to get revenge on a Japanese ship who had sunk the submarine commanded by his friend, and so he ignores more important targets. Run Silent, Run Deep is a novel by Commander (later Captain) Edward L. Beach Jr. The story describes World War II submarine warfare in the Pacific Ocean, and deals with themes of vengeance, endurance, courage, loyalty and honor, and how these can be tested during wartime. The name refers to "silent running", a submarine stealth tactic. The novel was on The New York Times Book Review list for several months. The staff of New York Times Book Review included it on their list of 250 Outstanding Books of the Year. Beach served on submarines in the Pacific during the war. The narrative is presented as the transcript of a Navy tape recording made by Commander Edward J. Richardson, recounting the events resulting in his receipt of the Medal of Honor. The note that purports to identify the text in this way says it was meant to be used in a war bond drive, but is unsuitable for that because Richardson "failed to confine himself to pertinent elements of the broad strategy of the war."

Deep Run Roots written by Vivian Howard and has been published by Little, Brown this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-04 with Cooking categories.

Vivian Howard, star of PBS's A Chef's Life, celebrates the flavors of North Carolina's coastal plain in more than 200 recipes and stories. This new classic of American country cooking proves that the food of Deep Run, North Carolina -- Vivian's home -- is as rich as any culinary tradition in the world. Organized by ingredient with dishes suited to every skill level, from beginners to confident cooks, Deep Run Roots features time-honored simple preparations alongside extraordinary meals from her acclaimed restaurant Chef and the Farmer. Home cooks will find photographs for every single recipe. Ten years ago, Vivian opened Chef and the Farmer and put the nearby town of Kinston on the culinary map. But in a town paralyzed by recession, she couldn't hop on every new culinary trend. Instead, she focused on rural development: If you grew it, she'd buy it. Inundated by local sweet potatoes, blueberries, shrimp, pork, and beans, Vivian learned to cook the way generations of Southerners before her had, relying on resourcefulness, creativity, and the traditional ways of preserving food. Deep Run Roots is the result of years of effort to discover the riches of Eastern North Carolina. Like The Fannie Farmer Cookbook, The Art of Simple Food, and The Taste of Country Cooking before it, this is landmark work of American food writing. Recipes include: Family favorites like Blueberry BBQ Chicken Creamed Collard-Stuffed Potatoes Fried Yams with Five-Spice Maple Bacon Candy Chicken and Rice Country-Style Pork Ribs in Red Curry-Braised Watermelon Show-stopping desserts like Warm Banana Pudding, Peaches and Cream Cake, Spreadable Cheesecake, and Pecan-Chewy Pie. You'll also find 200 more quick breakfasts, weeknight dinners, holiday centerpieces, seasonal preserves, and traditional preparations for all kinds of cooks.

Still Waters Run Deep written by Michael J. Manley and has been published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-02 with Serial murderers categories.

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to serial killers. Some are captured and sentenced to death, while others still lurk in communities throughout the world. Author Michael J. Manley contends that you can’t truly write about something unless you experience it yourself. He lived in the same neighborhood of one of the most notorious serial killers in Los Angeles, and he visited Springfield, Massachusetts, where nine serial killings were committed. He writes of the pain and horror that entire communities experience, as two contemporary serial killers on opposite ends of the country leave their dead to be found in bodies of water or alley ways. Based on true stories, the novel Still Waters Run Deep: The Tales of Two Cities That Suffered from Serial Killings: Springfield, Massachusetts & Los Angeles, California delves into the behaviorism that serial killers have in common. What is it that drives these mass murderers to kill? Still Waters is a must-read for those who need to know the mystery inside the murderous minds of serial killers.

This book brings together theologians, clergy, people with dementia, carers, clinicians and others to offer a holistic, interdisciplinary exploration of dementia which focuses not only on what dementia is and what it is not, but more importantly, what it means to live well with dementia and to find hope where sometimes it feels like there is no hope. Located within practical theology and theological anthropology, the diversity of perspectives on dementia presented in this book offers deep insights into what it means to be a human being, to live humanly in the midst of difficult situations, and helps us understand and navigate the complexities of the dementia journey. In offering foundational practical and theoretical knowledge, the book helps cut through the false consciousness of modernity and enter a world where personhood is defined not by our capacities or the loss of them, but by God’s loving presence. It offers a contextual theological framework to look beyond what we assume to be obvious and to recognize the “hidden” depths that can be discovered and encountered within individuals as they journey into dementia. In doing so, it takes seriously the lived experience of people with dementia and allows that to shape, form, and perhaps reform our understandings of God, human beings, and what it means to live well. Taken as a whole, the book posits that together, we can reflect upon and act out a hopeful future that makes people’s lives meaningful, purposeful and loving even in the midst of the challenges that Dementia brings. Still Waters Run Deep will be a key resource for academics, researchers, and advanced students of theology, divinity and religious studies, gerontology, psychology, mental health, and nursing. The chapters included in this book were originally published as a special issue of Journal of Religion, Spirituality & Aging.
