Coronavirus Capitalism Goes To The Cinema written by Eugene Nulman and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-08 with Social Science categories.

Using innovative interpretations of recent big budget films, Coronavirus Capitalism Goes to the Cinema interrogates the social, political and economic landscape during and prior to the COVID-19 crisis and provides lessons for advancing progressive politics in a post-pandemic age. By exploring numerous films including Avengers: Endgame, Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood, 1917, and Parasite, this short book provides a deep understanding about neoliberal society in a time of crisis. Facilitated by the ideas of Emma Goldman, Naomi Klein, Karl Marx, Noam Chomsky and many more, these movies are reinterpreted to point out our political blind spots, combat our non-COVID contagions and inoculate us into ideological herd immunity. From explorations of the supervillain-like decision-making of our political leaders to the inequalities in infection outcomes that sparked further Black Lives Matter protests, this book discusses the central social challenges we face today through the sights and sounds of some of the most beloved films of the very recent past. This entertaining and accessible book will reward readers who are interested in contemporary politics in the context of COVID-19, as well as cinephiles and movie-goers who want fresh interpretations of instant classics to help explain the world around them. More than just informative and amusing, this book is a call to action to those activists who want social change in the face of coronavirus capitalism.

Dreams Of Re Creation In Jamaica written by Diana Cooper-Clark and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-06 with History categories.

Diana Cooper-Clark has written a book that uncovers a ‘hidden’ history in the Holocaust narrative. The stories of seventeen Holocaust survivors who escaped to Jamaica and who are among the last eyewitnesses to the Shoah are inspiring. As well, she reveals the involvement of Jamaican Jews with the refugees and the Holocaust, and the virtually unknown story of the killing of Caribbean Jews in Nazi concentration camps. In addition, Dreams of Re-Creation in Jamaica has dozens of never before published photographs shared by the Jewish refugees. This book also sheds light on the Sephardim and their marginalization in the history of Hitler’s extermination policies. These compelling tales bring together World War II, Jewish refugees and Jamaican Jews, stories that have previously slipped through the cracks of history. As a child of six years old in Jamaica, Cooper-Clark read a book about the Nazi, Karl Eichmann, thus changing her life. She swore to spend the rest of her life bearing witness to the Holocaust. For everyone inspired by survival stories, and the triumph of life over death for both individuals and communities, this book is a must-read.

South Vietnamese Soldiers written by Nathalie Huynh Chau Nguyen and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-21 with History categories.

Published on the 40th anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam, this book brings to life the experiences and memories of South Vietnamese soldiers-the forgotten combatants of this controversial conflict. South Vietnam lost more than a quarter of a million soldiers in the Vietnam War, yet the histories of these men-and women-are largely absent from the vast historiography of the conflict. By focusing on oral histories related by 40 veterans from the former Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces, this book breaks new ground, shedding light on an essentially unexplored aspect of the war and giving voice to those who have been voiceless. The experiences of these former soldiers are examined through detailed firsthand accounts that feature two generations and all branches of the service, including the Women's Armed Forces Corps. Readers will gain insight into the soldiers' early lives, their military service, combat experiences, and friendships forged in wartime. They will also see how life became worse for most in the aftermath of the war as they experienced internment in communist prison camps, discrimination against their families on political grounds, and the dangers inherent in escaping Vietnam, whether by sea or land. Finally, readers will learn how veterans who saw no choice but to leave their homeland succeeded in rebuilding their lives in new countries and cultures.

Migrant experiences accentuate general aspects of the human condition. Therefore, this volume explores migrant's movements not only as geographical movements from here to there but also as movements that constitute an embodied, cognitive, and existential experience of living "in between" or on the "borderlands" between differently figured life-worlds. Focusing on memories, nostalgia, the here-and-now social experiences of daily living, and the hopes and dreams for the future, the volume demonstrates how all interact in migrants' and refugees' experience of identity and quest for well-being.

“Her life became like a pendulum that never stops swinging in the wrong direction as if it was meant to give the worst possible anguish to the heart that nurtured inside her chest! Her breathes were going to get shorter with every second that would pass by now and the only person who could save her was you!”, ~Hannah The girl of Leo’s dreams had faded into a world amid darkness from where maybe she would never be able to return as this was the truth and nothing could challenge it at all. She had been severely affected not only physically but mentally as well and that could be felt within the glow of her eyes which changed the moment she saw her partner in front of her and couldn’t possess control over the downstream river of tears that led down their way through her eyes. She had only a few rough days left in her because she had finally come to know about the mental disorder, she was suffering through which was eventually leading her into thinking about things in the most pessimistic way possible because one way or the other she had lost faith that she would survive. The doctor had already claimed that she had roughly a few weeks within her as a living being as a time was going to come when her soul would not bare further on this path which was led with goosebumps to pinch roughness in your skin and eventually make the cuts to let your blood flow. But irrespective of this, the only person who still had hope left within him for the survival of this kind charming girl was nobody else other than Leo, who could swear do anything, and put everything in his life at stake if needed to save her. Day and night he went on his way to find ways through which he could just possibly find help and the best medicative treatment possible in their whole country because no matter what he would no way give up, as he highly believed one or the other science would help his queen get away from this heartbreaking disorder and live a normal life once again like they all did by wearing a smile on their face. His efforts were consistent and over the bounds but still no matter what he was in no way able to find what to do and what to not because somewhere no doctor was ready to treat her as this was a genuine case of fatality and so they whatsoever didn’t want themselves to engage in such cases. Leo, day by day felt as if his efforts weren’t worth it but at the end of the day, he always convinced himself that no matter what he would never give up and would just keep going till the end because inside himself he had the potential of making the impossible happen as he believed God Jesus Christ would at some point save his partner so that they could together complete their unfulfilled dreams. Will they succeed? Will Leo ever be able to save the girl who ventured into the dreams of his life, day and night? These were some tough questions that this long tale of love was surely going to answer, but when was not something that could be affirmed!

This volume breaks new ground in the study of landscapes, both rural and urban. The innovative notion of this landscape collection is rupture. The book explores the ways in which societal, economic and cultural changes are transforming the meanings and understandings of landscapes. The text explores both how landscapes are contesting changes in society and changing society. The volume combines empirically fine-grained accounts of landscape rupture, from different parts of the world, with a sustained effort to explore, rethink and analytically extend the concept of rupture itself. The book therefore combines fresh empirical data with innovative theoretical approaches to open understanding of landscape as a dynamic, living entity subject to abrupt change and unpredictable disruptions. Through this dual reflection the volume is able to provide a powerful demonstration of the possibilities that are available for human action, social change and material landscape to combine.

Combining his deep knowledge of Luther with a passion to speak the promising word of the gospel with clarity and integrity in our age, Oswald Bayer has emerged as a leading Lutheran theologian. The chapters in this Festschrift demonstrate the wide scope of Bayer’s interest: Martin Luther, Johann Georg Hamann, the doctrine of justification, ethics, hermeneutics, theological method, sacraments, and the theology of lament. These essays, written by scholars from North America and Australia who have been influenced by Bayer’s pioneering work, demonstrate the resources that his work has for not only Reformation studies and systematic theology but also for preaching, liturgical theology, pastoral care, and apologetics. For those who are not yet acquainted with the contributions of this Tübingen theologian, Promising Faith for a Ruptured Age: An English-Speaking Appreciation of Oswald Bayer will serve as a guide to and commentary on Bayer’s multifaceted approach to theology. Those familiar with Bayer’s work as a systematic theologian and Luther scholar will discover new applications of fundamental themes for in interdisciplinary research, ecumenical conversation, and church life.
