La violencia contra la pareja sentimental se ha convertido, en los últimos años, en un problema social de primera magnitud. La S.A.R.A consiste en una guía o protocolo de predicción del riesgo de violencia específico para su uso en conflictos de pareja. Hasta ahora esta guía ha demostrado su eficacia en países como Canadá (donde se diseñó inicialmente), E.E.U.U., Reino Unido, Alemania, Holanda y los países nórdicos y aquí presentamos su adaptación a nuestra realidad española. Esta guía contiene el conjunto de factores de riesgo más relevantes que anticipan la violencia contra la pareja. Está construida de un modo que su uso en la predicción futura de violencia es sencillo y simplemente requiere un entrenamiento específico en su aplicación. Está adaptada para que puedan emplearla cotidianamente tanto psicólogos como psiquiatras, trabajadores sociales, policías y todos aquellos técnicos que se ocupan de la gestión del riesgo de la violencia contra la pareja y otros tipos de violencia familiar

La presente edición, traducción al español de la tercera versión de la guía (SARA-v3), ofrece una eficaz herramienta basada en el modelo de juicio profesional estructurado (JPE). En ella se describen los fundamentos empíricos de la metodología y los aspectos técnicos que deben tenerse en cuenta al administrar las indicaciones del manual en contextos profesionales (sociosanitarios, forenses, jurídicos y correccionales), y también se presentan líneas nuevas de investigación que ayudarán a mejorar la gestión de la violencia contra la pareja.

The study of how the environment, local geography, and physical locations influence crime has a long history that stretches across a number of research traditions. These include the neighborhood-effects approach developed by the Chicago school of sociology in the 1920s; modern environmental criminology that explains the geographic distribution of crime; the criminology of place, which focuses on crime rates at specific places over time; and a newer approach that attends to the perception of crime and disorder in communities. Aided by new mobile and digital technologies as well as improved data reporting in recent decades, research in environmental criminology has developed at a rapid pace within each of these approaches. Despite these advances, research in the subfield of environmental criminology remains fragmented, and competing theories are often kept apart. This book takes a different approach and integrates the subfield as a whole. It covers the core theoretical and empirical issues of how and why the environment influences the emergence of crime and how crime can affect the environment. The chapters reflect the diversity in research and theory from all over the Western world. In addition to covering traditional criminological research, the book probes how well current theories of environmental criminology contribute to our understanding of new problems and how well theories travel to other areas, such as West Africa, in which cultural differences might lead to different patterns in offending.

Research on violence against women has exploded in the past 20 years, particularly in the areas of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. Despite this outpouring of research, many gaps exist in our understanding of violence against women. For instance, reliable information on minority women's experiences with violence is still lacking. Few empirical data exist on the relationship between different forms of violence against women, such as victimization in childhood and subsequent victimization. Finally, empirical data on the consequences of violence against women, including their injury rates and use of medical services, are lacking. To further understanding of violence against women, the National Institute of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention jointly sponsored, through a grant to the Center for Policy Research, a national survey that was conducted from November 1995 to May 1996. The National Violence Against Women (NVAW) Survey sampled both women and men and thus provides comparable data on women's and men's experiences with violent victimization. Respondents to the survey were asked about: Physical assault they experienced as children by adult caretakers; Physical assault they experienced as adults by any type of assailant; Forcible rape and stalking they experienced at any time in their life by any type of perpetrator. Respondents who disclosed that they had been victimized were asked detailed questions about the characteristics and consequences of their victimization, including injuries they sustained and their use of medical services. This NIJ Research Report presents findings from the NVAW Survey on the prevalence and incidence of rape, physical assault, and stalking; the rate of injury among rape and physical assault victims; and injured victims' use of medical services. The data show that violence is more widespread and injurious to women's and men's health than previously thought—an important finding for legislators, policymakers, intervention planners, and researchers as well as the public health and criminal justice communities.
