The SADC HIV/AIDS Task Force in December 1999 adopted the vision of "A SADC With Reduced HIV/AIDS" to guide the work of the seven sectors participating in the development and implementation of a multi-sectoral SADC HIV/AIDS Framework for the period 2000 - 2004. The elaboration of this vision led to development of the overarching goal of "decreasing the number of HIV/AIDS infected and affected individuals and families in the SADC Region so that HIV/AIDS is no longer a threat to public health and to the socio-economic development of Member States". This goal provides guidance to all SADC sectors in the formulation of their responses to the epidemic.
