Pour évoquer la richesse infinie des significations d'une oeuvre, Borges aime à rappeler Scot Erigène, qui les compare à la magique irisation des plumes du paon.J'aurais souhaité, Amour de lecteur, que ce livre ressemblât à ce plumage quasi fabuleux.Ton oeil exercé aurait pu y discerner la cruelle couleur du sang qui coule des plaies de Prévert, le rose de la pierre romaine qui dore les textes de Ponge, le vert de l'herbe qui jamais ne flétrit dans l'oeuvre de Jaccottet, le jaune substantiel qui colore les livres de Quignard ou encore l'éclat stellaire d'une peau qui sert de guide à Desnos égaré dans ses nuits, - sans compter toutes les couleurs que Kijno rassemble, et qui, pour la plupart, nous sont inconnues : elles n'existent que sur ses toiles.A cette image trop chatoyante des plumes de l'oiseau de Junon ou de l'écharpe d'Iris, je préfère pourtant celle plus prosaïque des diaprures que provoque l'essence répandue dans les flaques des caniveaux, et dont s'émerveille un gamin planté là sur le trottoir.Le voilà de nouveau, cet enfant, dont on me fait remarquer qu'il s'obstine à revenir dans ce livre, de chapitre en chapitre. Je n'avais pas prévu qu'il serait là. Sa présence, je ne me l'explique pas. Sauf à supposer qu'il n'est que l'ombre portée du lecteur incliné sur ces pages, persuadé comme je le suis, que c'est cet enfant qui lit depuis toujours à travers nous, quelque âgé que l'on soit, avec la même émotion, la même fascination qu'il éprouvait à regarder les flaques d'eau grise enluminées.

In Quebec National Cinema Bill Marshall tackles the question of the role cinema plays in Quebec's view of itself as a nation. Surveying mostly fictional feature films, Marshall demonstrates how Quebec cinema has evolved from the innovative direct cinema of the early 1960s into the diverse canvas of popular comedies, glossy co-productions, and reworked auteur cinema of the postmodern 1990s. He explores the faultlines of Quebec identity - its problematic and contradictory relationship with France, the question of Native peoples, the influence of the cosmopolitan and pluralist city of Montreal, and the encounters between sexuality, gender, and nation traced and critiqued in women's and queer cinemas. In the first comprehensive, theoretically informed work in English on Quebec cinema, Marshall views his subject as neither the assertion of some unproblematic national wholeness nor a random collection of disparate voices that drown out or invalidate the question of nation. Instead, he shows that while the allegory of nation marks Quebec film production it also leads to a tension between textual and contextual forces, between homogeneity and heterogeneity, and between major and minor modes of being and identity. Drawing on a broad framework of theory and particularly indebted to the work of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, Quebec National Cinema makes a valuable contribution to debates in film studies on national cinemas and to the burgeoning interest in French studies in the culture and politics of la francophonie. Bill Marshall is professor of Modern French Studies at the University of Glasgow. He has written several books and numerous articles on film and Francophone culture.

Every musical form has had an impact on the linguistic practices of our society. French song is a vector of cultural, social, and stylistic values. Throughout the world, songs in the French language are used in the teaching of French: professors incorporate songs into the curriculum in order to illustrate differences of register and linguistic variation, as well as to raise lexical or grammatical questions. As a form of popular expression, song is a genre that has, in recent years, become the focus of serious academic scholarship and criticism. However, few linguists have paid attention to French song and its linguistic uses.
