The third volume of Saggi di anglistica e americanistica is the last in the series published under the aegis of the University of Florence PhD course in English and American Studies which, after 25 years, will terminate its activities in 2013. This last collection once again attests to the worth of the PhD's educational programme and aims: it brings together the essays produced by ten young scholars over the last three years of research, in view of preparing their PhD dissertations. Recent work on second language acquisition within the generative framework has pointed out interfaces (syntax-discourse, syntax-semantics, etc.) as a residual domain of vulnerability in L2. Rather than in core syntax, it is at the interface level that the divergence between native and non-native grammars has been shown to be more prominent. In this book the investigation of answering strategies and the focalization of new information subjects, which require access to the syntax-discourse interface, will be pursued. Data is collected through an oral elicitation task on Finnish and Italian, a rather unexplored language pair, in various stages of language development: advanced and intermediate L2 acquisition, L1 under L2 attrition, early bilingualism, child monolingual L1 development.

Guardando all’allegoria come modo espressivo culturalmente determinato, il volume indaga l’istanza allegorica presente nelle ‘scritture di ricerca’ del secondo ’900. Coniugando la discussione critico-teorica sull’allegoria moderna e sul dibattito italiano degli anni ’80 a puntuali analisi testuali, lo studio attraversa la produzione in prosa di autori di area sperimentale e neoavanguardistica, tra cui Manganelli, Morselli, Volponi, Malerba, Arbasino, Sanguineti e Di Marco. Nelle opere esaminate la tensione allegorica si esplica non solo nel piano tematico, ma si traduce nel modo di formare, orientando le scelte diegetiche, le strutture, i rapporti con generi e modelli della tradizione. Si dispiega, così, quella tramadisegnata dall’allegoria, principio strutturante dell’opera e garante del suo rapporto con il piano della storia – di cui la letteratura, con deformato realismo, esibisce conflitti e tensioni.

Prendendo le mosse dalla definizione jakobsiana di poeticità, nel volume si studiano i meccanismi attraverso cui i connettivi, quali segni linguistici deputati alla connessione tra parti del discorso, concorrono alla poeticità, intesa come peculiarità testuale in grado di attivare l’interprete presente nella lingua tout court, ma in particolar modo nel testo letterario. I primi due capitoli del volume, una panoramica sui fondamenti teorici e metodologici che giustificano la scelta di acquisire i connettivi come possibili indicatori di poeticità, offrono un’introduzione propedeutica al terzo capitolo nel quale si descrivono i risultati di uno studio condotto sulla base di testi poetici tedeschi della prima metà del Novecento e avente per oggetto la sintassi e la semantica del connettivo in.
