Come è nata la “semiotica” e su quali altre basi avrebbe potuto svilupparsi una “semiologia”? Questo libro testimonia un dibattito del passato e ne apre uno di interesse non solamente storico-disciplinare. Al centro è il linguista Roman Jakobson, “l’ultimo dei grandi vecchi”, come lo ha definito Umberto Eco (in un articolo ora raccolto per la prima volta in questo libro).
