"In Sailing to Paradise, Jim Bailey alters our fundamental understanding of history. Bailey draws on the labors and findings of a great variety of experts - archaeologists, language experts, anthropologists, biologists, historians, collectors of myth and oral tradition, and geographers - and sets out to show that there has really been a global village several times before." "Applying his extensive research, Bailey shows the genesis of our various religions, the spread of the matriarchal world, the worship of the Great Goddess, the early history of Africa, and the early worldwide use of mining and technology. He points out that America has been a world power at least twice before." "Sailing to Paradise is a brilliant, comprehensive recreation of history that will appeal to anyone fascinated with the possibilities of our far-distant past."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Somewhere between the Galapagos Islands en route to the Marqesas Group in the darkest of nights, at approximately six degrees south of the equator a sailboat is whispering along under full sail. The fresh south east trades are pushing her sleek hull through the coal black water at around eight knots. The man standing at the wheel, wearing ragged shorts only in the warm tropical breeze gently fanning him over the port quarter, helms his craft by starlight alone. All lights have been doused on this moonless night and even the masthead white light has been switched off. Fixing his eyes on a star group which arcs back and forth over the masthead as it sways to the roll of the ocean, he has been sailing his yacht like this for an hour or more. He could put her onto autohelm, but is so absorbed in his task that he feels he could stand watch all night. Accompanying him is a pod of dolphins gambolling along and playing with this laggardly and sluggish thing sharing their watery world, which adds to the delight and satisfaction of the moment. Surrounded by a three hundred and sixty degree inverted bowl he is totally confounded by the absolute multitude cornucopia of stars before him in this tiny quadrant of the ocean. How many more must there be that cannot be seen from this position? With no degrading light from any other source, the stars shine brightly and they are countless. Breathtaking in their abundance he comes to the conclusion that life exists elsewhere in the universe, other than just on our planet. Not that this is a new thought to him, but sailing in these conditions rams it home with greater significance and whilst carrying the feeling of being such a tiny little speck in the scope of things, he also feels very strongly to be part of the great flowing river of life. At this moment, absorbing the wonder, he would not want to be anywhere else on the planet. Sailboat cruising provides many cathartic moments such as this, all character building and never to be forgotten. Bringing them together is what has led this author to write about his own sailing adventures in paradise. 'Sailing Adventures in Paradise' chronicles the many adventures of the author over several years cruising in the waters of the Caribbean and then into the oceans of both the Atlantic and Pacific. Detailing the many adventures, incidents, trials and tribulations that arose, most times unexpectedly, and how the crew overcame these adversities with panic initially, then calm purpose and persistence, most times in that order! Told through the eyes of the boat, it introduces a refreshing and intimate insight of how life at sea on passage for lengthy periods can be a challenge, not only for the crew but the boat also, and how these can be overcome to lead into one of the most wonderful character building adventures to be had today at any age. One old Sea Dog said to the author prior to setting sail that he would not necessarily be qualified to make the trip at the outset, but certainly would be by the time the sailboat voyage was over - in other words a sailor planning this sailing adventure would never know everything before leaving, but not to hang back - but be as best prepared as possible and get out there, leave port and set sail. The ebook includes 101 dollar saving tips that planning voyagers would never think of before leaving port. These tips are hyperlinked into the narrative and could save cruising sailors many hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over the duration of their sailing adventure of a lifetime voyage. Essential and most enjoyable reading for all armchair sailors and all those planning to sail off on their own yachting adventure over the horizon into the oceans of this beautiful planet of ours. Racing Through Paradise is the third entry in Bill Buckley’s now classic sailing trilogy. Here the irresponsible, eloquent, enjoyable Buckley guides us through his beloved Azores, and through the Galapagos (“the Bronx Zoo at the Equator”), about which he inclines more to Melville’s view than to Darwin’s, and through places such as Johnston Atoll, where mysteries and hostilities await. On a hilarious side adventure, we have a memorable encounter with “The Angel of Craig’s Point.” Along the way, Buckley navigates among pleasant diversions as well as unforeseen navigational and philosophical shoals. He adroitly excerpts the candid journals of his shipmates, notably that of his son, Christopher, himself a best-selling novelist. The fine photographs by Christopher Little illustrate throughout. When Buckley’s Sealestial sails, finally, into New Guinea, we have shared a unique experience with a special breed of sailor, skipper, host, friend, and human being.

Mermaid Our Family In Paradise written by Philip Rink and has been published by PR Product Research, LLC this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Bahamas categories.

Here is an idea: This spring, fly to St. Martin or one of the other Caribbean islands and buy a sailboat. Then, next Halloween (or so) pack up the family and move on to the boat for the winter. You and your family can spend the first month learning to sail, then explore the islands, home-school the kids, and enjoy tropical living. If things go well, when you return home and sell the boat you might even make enough to pay for the trip. Sound far-fetched? This family of four from Camano Island, Washington did exactly that. Overcoming a lack of sailing and cruising experience with research, good advice and attitude, they had a great time and a great adventure as they sailed the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Also, the companion video is now available here on Amazon.com.Reviews: Although the Rinks had raised their children power boating in the Northwest, the family learned together how to sail in the Caribbean. By the end of the six-month-long adventure, the family had anchored out every night but two, and made ocean passages as long as five nights. -We challenged ourselves in meaningful ways that brought us together as a family. The whole idea of the video and book is to share how other families can experience this kind of great adventure.- --SEA, May 2003Although the Rinks had raised their children power boating in the Northwest, the family learned together how to sail in the Caribbean. By the end of the six-month-long adventure, the family had anchored out every night but two, and made ocean passages as long as five nights. -We challenged ourselves in meaningful ways that brought us together as a family. The whole idea of the video and book is to share how other families can experience this kind of great adventure.- --SEA, May 2003For every boater out there who has dreamed of sailing away, this little hot-off-the-press paperback is a must buy. Why? Because it is a clearly written log of one Northwest family's sailing adventures and a detailed how- to-do-it manual. Many of us talk (or dream) of taking off to cruise through warm seas. But when it comes to acting, we don t have the money, or the right boat, or the time, the skills, the, the, the . . . The Rink family didn't either. In fact, they were not even experienced sailors. While they both taken sailing and pilotage courses, they had never cruised off shore. They had kids in school and profitable work that they enjoyed (mostly). But they dropped, massaged, and changed their commitments to pursue something new to all of us that would be difficult to complete. -We wanted a trip that would present problems and challenges that we could solve only as a family.- While the book loosely describes their overall voyage, it really is a compendium of information and advice. There are chapters on such topics as: anchoring, money, health and safety, food, our favorite places, shipping the boat home and so on. Rink includes tidbits like: Cleanliness is a big deal when buying and storing food. We managed to keep Mermaid completely cockroach free, but is was a lot of work. We saw more than a few boats that were infested with ants or cockroaches. There is even a section titled: -Calendar - laying out exactly what to do as well as telling when and where to be during your own Caribbean adventure. The equipment list alone is worth the book price. For anyone gravitating toward a similar adventure, this paperback (and their video) is a treasure --pugetmarine web siteIf you've ever wondered how a family of novice sailors can take a year off and successfully cruise the Caribbean and the Bahamas, read this book. Phil and Nancy Rink and their daughter, Lena, 12, and their son, Pender, 9, move aboard Mermaid, a Beneteau Oceanis 400 in St. Martin and chronicle their experience, often through the eyes of their children. An inspirational primer on how to cruise the Caribbean with kids. --Cruising World, Jan 2004.
