The delay since that long period in the preparation of a fifth edition is attributable, mainly, to the fact that the Authors time was almost entirely devoted to his professional occupations, consequently he was unable to give that care and attention to the subject of 'The Sailing Boat' which a new edition seemed to require. The leisure at his command during the last five or six years has given him the opportunity he sought, and enabled him, in this new and much enlarged edition, to make the work more complete and up to date.
