Un percorso attraverso la storia, l’archeologia e le fonti documentarie guidato da studiosi e docenti di prestigiose istituzioni italiane e internazionali. Il volume riunisce gli interventi dei partecipanti alla III edizione delle Giornate di archeologia e storia del Vicino e Medio Oriente (5-6 maggio 2017), organizzate dalla Fondazione Terra Santa in collaborazione con la Biblioteca Ambrosiana di Milano e lo Studium Biblicum Franciscanum di Gerusalemme. L’appuntamento, dal titolo “Salvaguardare la memoria per immaginare il futuro”, ha affrontato il delicato tema della tutela del patrimonio culturale a rischio nei Paesi del Medio Oriente e, più in generale, ha offerto spunti di riflessione sull’importanza di conoscere e valorizzare un’area geografica estremamente ricca di testimonianze (ma anche, talvolta, di minacce alle stesse). Nel libro vengono esaminati siti e argomenti molto diversi tra loro, che insieme però tracciano l’affresco unitario di un patrimonio che non ha eguali, un tesoro inestimabile. A questi è dedicata la prima sezione i cui contributi, approfonditi e documentati, condurranno il lettore in un viaggio tra Siria, Israele e Territori palestinesi, passando attraverso la Turchia, la Giordania e la ricca tradizione copta, per arrivare infine a Milano e ai suoi legami con la Terra Santa. Diplomatics was originally developed in France during the seventeenth century in attempts to prove the authenticity of archival documents. It was later refined in European universities as a legal, historical, and philological discipline, and in the twentieth century it has primarily been applied to medieval and early modern documents in order to evaluate their authority as sources of research. Diplomatics embraces the perspective of the modern archivist, and investigates the origin, development, and application of diplomatic concepts.
