Excerpt from Salvation and the Old Theology: Pivot Points in Romans Salvation and the Old Theology, or Pivot Points in Romans consists of a series of Fri day night talks given before the Tabernacle Bible School, and revised with much care for publica tion. When I went into this course with the class I promised that I would endeavor to set forth the teaching of this great Epistle without regard to any theory that men have set up concerning it, and this purpose I have kept in mind continually. At some points I have been forced to present a different view from many of our most popular expounders of to-day, but wherever the differ ence has arisen I have found myself in harmony with the most orthodox expositors of The days of the fathers. The Epistle to the Romans is without doubt the bed-rock'in the theology of the wisest and best men that the Church has ever had. They have built their theology on its teaching. The essential doctrines of God, Christ, sin, atonement, propitiation, redemption, reconciliation, and Sal vation, as taught in Romans and held by the early Church, have been carefully considered in the series, and without trimming or modification. My purpose has been to present these old doc trines in the regular order in which the Apostle puts them, and to do it in the language 'oi the people; so that the simplest and plainest mind might grasp them. New Testament scholarship since the Enlightenment is not quite like the histories tend to present it. It has not been the unfolding triumph of objective ''critical'' or ''historical'' thinkers over less progressive and dogmatically biased ''theological'' interests. Rather, in the same respective eras that ''critical'' thinkers like F.C. Bauer and R. Bultmann mapped out approaches to NT theology, responsible scholars from J.C.K. Hofmann to O. Cullmann have responded with viable programs of their own. This volume brings the ascendant Baur-Wrede-Bultmann line of analysis into dialogue with what may be called the salvation historical perspective, thus uncovering a line of inquiry that was significant in the past and may prove promising in the future.

This insightful work is a theological, historical, and scriptural explanation of the Tabernacle of Moses in the Sinai Wilderness. It is a practical, in-depth, and engaging work that examines in detail the Old Testament Tabernacle and gleans from every aspect of its story, a connection with Jesus Christ. The author has journeyed back into time and takes us along to where he uncovers amazing and revealing connections between the old tabernacle with all its bloodshed, and the work of Jesus Christ on the cross at Golgotha. The Tabernacle of Moses is an intensely transformative work; it reveals long hidden secrets whose discovery introduces our hearts to truth we have never known and pours into our understanding immensely revealing connections that leave no doubt as to why the Tabernacle of Moses was a necessary prerequisite for the work of our Messiah, Jesus Christ. Written for both Christians and non-Christians seeking biblical understanding, The Tabernacle of Moses is a guide for greater comprehension of both Old and New Testament scriptures. Through this Old Testament portable sanctuary where God chose to live on earth among His people, we are afforded a close up view of Israels journey from bondage in Egypt to freedom through the Red Sea. As the Israelites moved towards the Promised Land, the book explains how God uses this tabernacle, and ultimately the entire Bible, to teach through types, shadows, and symbolism, the importance of this structure in the development of the religious life of Israel and in the believers life today. This work seeks to help us understand how the redeeming work of Jesus Christ is made possible based on the Tabernacle of Moses.

Representing Zion written by Frederik Poulsen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-15 with History categories.

The prophetic books of the Old Testament offer a fascinating collection of oracles, poetic images, and theological ideas. Among the most prominent themes are those of judgment and salvation, especially concerning the fate of Zion. This place, where the people of God dwell, is alternately presented as either the object of divine wrath or the image of a salvific ideal. Representing Zion provides a thorough and critical study of the images of Zion in the entire prophetic literature of the Old Testament. The book challenges traditional interpretations of Zion and offers a fresh exploration of the literary and theological nature of the biblical writings. Zion has largely been treated by scholars as an image of the inviolable city consistently and unambiguously used by Old Testament authors. Representing Zion reveals the Zion motif to be contested, complex and profoundly theological—a reflection of the ambiguous role of YHWH as judge and saviour.

Christopher Wright uses this verse as a lens through which he surveys the Bible’s teaching on 'salvation’. Every phrase in the verse resonates with significant themes in the Old and New Testaments, all of which combine to show that the Bible tells the story of God’s salvation very broadly indeed, in relation to the character and purposes of God, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the redemption of all creation, the joy of Christian experience and the responsibility of Christian mission. This clear, deep and warm-hearted exposition enriches our grasp of the Bible’s multi-faceted teaching about salvation.
