David Trementozzi contends that conservative-traditional Christianity has uncritically adopted an intellectualist (i.e., rationally-driven) view of faith in its understanding and practice of salvation. Throughout, he maintains that an intellectualist soteriology should be rejected because it prioritizes the rational over other behavioral and affective aspects of faith. An intellectualist rendering of salvation is incomplete because human experience is neither abstract nor gnostic--it is embodied and experientially relevant. An intellectualist soteriology simply cannot account for the dynamic and transforming possibilities of saving grace. Salvation in the Flesh offers an innovative perspective on the embodied nature of faith and the centrality of the Holy Spirit in the Christian doctrine of salvation. Drawing from the cognitive neurosciences and psychology, Trementozzi argues for a holistic awareness of cognition to better inform an embodied understanding of faith. In dialogue with the cognitive sciences, he appropriates Jonathan Edwards' theology of religious affections, early church practices, and pentecostal spirituality to highlight the soteriological significance of orthodoxy, orthopraxy, and orthopathy for a renewal soteriology of embodiment. In doing so, Trementozzi offers a vision of salvation that more thoroughly accounts for the multifarious ways God's saving grace interacts with human flesh and blood.

"Since the religious revolution of the sixteenth century, to no man has the Catholic Church in Scotland been so much indebted as to Bishop Hay. He is pre-eminently her bishop of the last three hundred years." - Bishop John Strain, Archbishop of the Metropolitan see of St. Andrews and Edinburgh, 1810-1883 Enemies of Salvation complements TAN's already vast catalog of timeless Catholic books that have been updated and now reprinted for your spiritual growth. Besides producing traditional Catholic content from living authors, TAN Books looks to the saints and spiritual masters of the past to guide us in the present and into the future to our true home, Heaven. Authored by renowned Scottish Archbishop George Hay (1729-1811), this work, pulled from Bishop Hay's The Devout Christian, examines our three chief enemies--the flesh, the world, and the devil--and how they conspire together to threaten our salvation. In this succinct text, Bishop Hay provides a field map to knowing your enemies, and learning how to defeat them.

What does Paul mean by “the flesh”? There is a great deal of confusion among laymen and disagreement among scholars on this issue. Christians know that we are supposed to “walk by the Spirit” so that they will not gratify the desires of the flesh, but it is not entirely clear what these expressions mean. Furthermore, Paul can also be confusing when he addresses the Christian’s relationship to the flesh—are we in the flesh or not? This book clarifies these issues for us by exploring the different meanings of “flesh” throughout the Bible, and analyzing the influence both of Old Testament conceptions of “flesh” as well as new salvation-historical realities on Paul’s thinking, especially in the context of the controversy over circumcision in Galatians. By carefully following Paul’s thought, we will also gain greater insight into other Pauline themes that intersect with his theology of the flesh: new creation and his view of this age and the one to come. Most importantly, we will discover Paul’s own program for our spiritual transformation so that we may live a life of Christlike love and service despite the moral weakness of our flesh.

These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son that thy Son also may glorify thee. (John 17:1) Jesus knew that the work of salvation was finished, and he paid the price for your redemption on Calvary, and God has given Jesus power over all flesh that he shall give eternal life to as many as you have given him. You are not to fear the second death if you abide in the Word of God. His Word is life. And now, O Father, glorify thou me. With the glory which I had with thee before the world was. I have manifested thy name. (John 17: 56) Jesus is telling us that the Word was in the beginning with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God, and the Word was made flesh. Our Holy Father has made us one with him, and he is the author and finisher of our salvation.

In my heart, I have been so devastated in this season by the COVID-19 pandemic. It has wreaked havoc in the lives of so many people, in the lives of believers and nonbelievers. We are at a crossroads where our home has literally become our sanctuaries and our bodies are temples of the Most High God. We have been removed from the church buildings, we have been removed from the stadiums, and we have been removed from the casinos. God has literally cut us off from the things that were separating us from His glory. What Satan meant for bad, God turned it into good. If truth be told, we would look at the situation and think that Satan was the one trying to amputate us literally and cut us off from one another. God said in 2 Chronicles 13, "If I shut up heaven and hold back the rain and command the locusts to come in and command pestilence, then if my people which are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways will they hear from heaven and I will heal their land." We are in a time when God has literally sent us home to shut the door and wait for the wrath to pass, put the blood on the doorposts, and let the death angel pass by. I plead the blood of Jesus, the blood that covers us, the blood that protects us, the blood that He SHED for us, the blood that destroys sin, the blood that kills the python spirit, the blood that kills the Jezebel spirit, the blood that destroys evil, demons, and the devil, that blood that never loses power, the life-saving blood of Jesus. Everyone, keep your hands clean and hearts pure. The flesh will never be righteous, but the houses can be clean, free of evil spirits. We are the children of the Most High God.

The Gospel According To Luke written by Greg Carey and has been published by Sheffield Phoenix Press Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Religion categories.

Greg Carey's guide equips readers to develop their own informed assessments of Luke's Gospel. The book begins with an inductive exposition of Luke's singular approach to composing a story about Jesus, examining its use of Mark, clues to its social setting, and its distinctive literary strategies. Recognizing that many readers approach Luke for theological and religious reasons, while many others do not, a chapter on 'Spirit' addresses Luke's presentation of the God of Israel, how the Gospel ties salvation to the person of Jesus, and how the problems of sin and evil find their resolution in the kingdom of God and in the community of those who follow Jesus. A chapter on 'Practice' examines the Gospel's vision for human community. While many readers find a revolutionary message in which women, the poor, Gentiles and sinners find themselves included and blessed in Luke's Gospel, this volume calls attention to inconsistencies and tensions within the narrative. Luke does speak toward inclusion, Carey argues, but not in a revolutionary way. Could it be that the Gospel promises more than it delivers? Carey suggests that Luke addresses people of relative privilege, challenging them toward mercy and inclusion rather than toward fundamental social change. An Epilogue reflects upon contemporary readers of Luke, most of whom enjoy privilege in their own right, and how they may respond to Luke's story. With literary sensitivity, this guide accompanies readers through questions of religious and social interest, offering balanced assessments of the major topics and debates in contemporary interpretation.

Good works follow salvation; they do not earn salvation. Good works do not save us. The works of faith are those works ordained and performed by God through the believer. They are the result of faith. It is that perfect faith that justifies the believer. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:8-10. In Romans, chapters 6 and 8, Paul explains faith without good works cannot save. Paul says that God's elect "walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Romans 8:1. He states that those who do not walk in the Spirit but instead walk in the flesh "shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Galatians 5:15-25. John explains: "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 John 1:6-7. James asks a rhetorical question: "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?" James 2:14. James succinctly explains that "faith without works is dead." James 2:20. The pronouncement in James that true faith bears the fruit of good works is a theme found in the gospel. But some perniciously preach that God saves a person by faith that has no good works. That is one of the "damnable heresies" about which Peter warned. See 2 Peter 2:1-22.
