On the occasion of his 70th birthday, a look back at the career of inspired and inventive watercolorist Gottfried Salzmann. For decades Gottfried Salzmann has been taking the art of watercolor painting to exciting and original levels. In his countless urban landscapes of New York, San Francisco, and Paris, Salzmann combines watercolors with acrylic and pencil or pen, or incorporates photography and printmaking into the finished piece. This retrospective volume offers an overview of Salzmann's oeuvre. Although he works in other media, Salzmann considers himself a watercolorist first, preferring to champion the medium's flexibility, transgress the narrow notions of its application, and build bridges to the domains of other visual arts. As a result his collage-like paintings offer a window into the urban life that inspires his work.

Being able to recover the shape of 3D deformable surfaces from a single video stream would make it possible to field reconstruction systems that run on widely available hardware without requiring specialized devices. However, because many different 3D shapes can have virtually the same projection, such monocular shape recovery is inherently ambiguous. In this survey, we will review the two main classes of techniques that have proved most effective so far: The template-based methods that rely on establishing correspondences with a reference image in which the shape is already known, and non-rigid structure-from-motion techniques that exploit points tracked across the sequences to reconstruct a completely unknown shape. In both cases, we will formalize the approach, discuss its inherent ambiguities, and present the practical solutions that have been proposed to resolve them. To conclude, we will suggest directions for future research. Table of Contents: Introduction / Early Approaches to Non-Rigid Reconstruction / Formalizing Template-Based Reconstruction / Performing Template-Based Reconstruction / Formalizing Non-Rigid Structure from Motion / Performing Non-Rigid Structure from Motion / Future Directions

The Reality Of Being written by Jeanne de Salzmann and has been published by Shambhala Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-06 with Self-Help categories.

An important book on liberating ourselves from the state of “waking sleep” in which we live our lives, as taught by one of the most influential spiritual teachers of the 20th century As the closest pupil of the charismatic spiritual master G. I. Gurdjieff (1866–1949), Jeanne de Salzmann was charged with carrying on his teachings of spiritual transformation. Known as the Fourth Way or “The Work,” Gurdjieff’s system was based on teachings of the East that he adapted for modern life in the West. Now, some twenty years after de Salzmann's death, the notebooks that she filled with her insights over a forty-year period (and intended to publish) have been translated and edited by a small group of her family and followers. The result is this long-awaited guide to Gurdjieff's teaching, describing the routes to be traveled and the landmarks encountered along the way. Organized according to themes, the chapters touch on all the important concepts and practices of the Work, including: • Awakening from the sleep of identification with the ordinary level of being • Self-observation and self-remembering • Conscious effort and voluntary suffering • Understanding symbolic concepts like the Enneagram • The Gurdjieff Movements, bodily exercises that provide training in Presence and the awareness of subtle energies • The necessity of a "school," meaning the collective practice of the teaching in a group Madame de Salzmann brings to the Work her own strong, direct language and personal journey in learning to live that knowledge of a higher level of being, which, she insists, “you have to see for yourself” on a level beyond theory and concept. De Salzmann consistently refused to discuss the teaching in terms of ideas, for this Fourth Way is to be experienced, not simply thought or believed.

Language Culture And Society written by Zdenek Salzmann and has been published by Westview Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-04-02 with Social Science categories.

This second edition of Language, Culture, and Society has profited from the comments of several instructors who have been using the text successfully during the past several years. In his revisions, Zdenek Salzmann has not only updated the text but has made it even more user-friendly. Two of the original chapters have been subdivided, the text has been enriched by the inclusion of additional examples, and the discussions of some of the more abstract topics have been edited with the student and the layperson in mind. With the growing emphasis in anthropology on applications of anthropological findings, references to the uses of linguistic anthropology are included throughout the book, and the final chapter is devoted solely to applications. Because anthropology stresses the holistic view, the tendency to integrate the data from all subfields of anthropology is evident throughout the book.

What did the disintegration of the Soviet Union feel like for the people who lived through it? Award-winning writer Sasha Salzmann tells this story in a remarkable novel about two women in extraordinary times __________ 'A story of several generations of women that poignantly demonstrates the imprint of history on people's lives, often with tragic consequences. Salzmann conveys the emotional turmoil and agonizing choices their characters make with exquisite nuance and sensitivity. Their distinctive voice, elegant prose and engaging narrative result in a marvelous work' Victoria Belim, author of The Rooster House '[Salzmann] writes in a broad, timelessly epic style. There is a quiet sovereignty here that gives one great hope that we are reading one of the next great German storytellers' Süddeutsche Zeitung 'A brilliant book... [that] vibrates with the pleasure of narrating' Neue Zürcher Zeitung __________ As a child, Lena longs to pick hazelnuts in the woods with her grandmother but is raised as a good socialist: sent to Pioneer summer camps where she's taught to worship Lenin, and sing songs in praise of the glorious Soviet Union. But perestroika is coming, her corner of the USSR is now called Ukraine, and corruption and patronage are now the only ways to get ahead - to secure a place at university, an apartment, treatment for a sick baby. For Tatjana, the shock of the new means the first McDonalds in the Soviet Union and certified foreign whisky, but no food in the shops; it means terrible choices about who to love. Eventually both women must decide whether to stay or to emigrate, but the trauma they carry is handed down to their daughters, struggling to make sense of their own identities. In a story that spans generations, Salzmann creates a vivid depiction of how the collapse of the Soviet Union reverberated through the lives of ordinary people. Engrossing and wide-reaching, rich in detail and unforgettable characters, Glorious People is a vivid feat of storytelling from a powerful talent.
