Oggi al suo terzo mandato presidenziale, con la prospettiva di governare fino al 2024, il Nuovo Zar ha ridato alla Russia il suo antico splendore utilizzando il petrolio ed il gas, ovvero quei beni che la grande finanza internazionale aveva provato a spartirsi dopo la dissoluzione dell’Urss. Un politico così ovviamente non può piacere all’Occidente che non può far altro che accusarlo di non rispettare i diritti umani. Dalla sua parte ci sono però i russi che continuano a sostenerlo a spada tratta. Putin è riuscito a creare per il suo Paese una fitta rete di collaborazioni internazionali che hanno saputo mettere Mosca al riparo perfino dagli effetti delle sanzioni decise dall’Occidente come ritorsione dopo che il Cremlino ha riportato tra i confini nazionali la Crimea. Contrariamente a quanto i media, anche italiani, vorrebbero far credere Putin merita appieno un posto nella storia, e non del tutto in negativo.

“L’unico dovere che abbiamo nei confronti della storia è quello di riscriverla” sono le parole di Oscar Wilde che leggiamo all’inizio di questo libro. E non poteva esserci citazione migliore per introdurre il grande lavoro di ricerca e documentazione svolto da Gian Carlo Abbaneo nello scrivere e ripercorrere i momenti storici risalenti alla Guerra di Russia e, soprattutto, a quello definito come il debito insoluto verso Stalingrado. Il “credito” acquistato dall’Unione Sovietica di fronte al mondo in quel breve periodo non assolve certo le colpe che si possono attribuire all’impero sovietico, come gli innumerevoli crimini del suo regime, ma i meriti dell’Armata Rossa che difese eroicamente Stalingrado, e vanificò il sogno di dominio millenario di Hitler, non possono essere cancellati dalle repressioni di Budapest e Praga. La Russia oggi continua ad essere, per l’Occidente, un sorvegliato speciale, sia per il possesso dei temuti arsenali nucleari, sia per le tendenze a ritagliarsi proprie aree di influenza, o perseguire fini discutibili con interventi, considerati aggressivi, in alcune delle aree più sensibili del pianeta. L’attuale clima di rinnovata ostilità, blocchi economici e misure ritorsive nei riguardi della Russia, non è certo favorevole e politicamente ideale per tributare riconoscimenti morali. La vittoria nella guerra del 1941-45 appare ormai troppo lontana, da allora la storia è andata per la sua strada e troppo lungo è stato il cammino divergente degli ex-alleati che sono, nel frattempo, radicalmente cambiati, come è cambiata la natura dei problemi che si trovano ad affrontare in questo presente ancora conflittuale, ma onorare questo debito servirebbe a fare un po’ più giusta la nostra storia. Gian Carlo Abbaneo è nato nel 1948 a Torino. Si è laureato in Ingegneria elettronica presso il Politecnico di Torino nel 1974 e nel 1992-1997 ha frequentato il corso di laurea in Filosofia presso l’Università di Torino. È stato docente di ruolo presso istituti di istruzione superiore in Italia (Torino) dal 1975 al 1983 e in Brasile (Rio de Janeiro) presso il Liceo Scientifico G. Marconi dal 1983 al 1988. Ha ricoperto il ruolo di Funzionario presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di San Paolo del Brasile nel 1988-91 e dal 1991 al 2005 ha svolto attività di docente di ruolo presso istituti di istruzione superiore in provincia di Torino. Pensionato dal 2005, è residente da allora prevalentemente in Brasile a Rio de Janeiro.

Land bridges are the causeways of biodiversity. When they form, organisms are introduced into a new patchwork of species and habitats, forever altering the ecosystems into which they flow; and when land bridges disappear or fracture, organisms are separated into reproductively isolated populations that can evolve independently. More than this, land bridges play a role in determining global climates through changes to moisture and heat transport and are also essential factors in the development of biogeographic patterns across geographically remote regions. Kiev has always revealed a surprising capacity for assimilation, giving rise over time to multi-ethnic, multi-faith and multi-cultural contexts of various types. Thinking of the "Kiev text" leads inevitably to consideration of the other emblematic text of the Ukrainian identity, the no less composite reality of Lviv. This publication contains the contributions presented at a Conference (Milan, February 2007) addressed to the "cultural text" of Kiev and Lviv. The authors are specialists with different cultural profiles, and the book is of a deliberately inter-disciplinary character. In view of the richness and variety of the information it is offered, within the Italian and international context, as a useful source even for the non-specialist public, and is one of a very small number of books dedicated to Ukraine available in Italian. Clearly, the arguments addressed represent only a tiny part of the vast spectrum of issues and questions inherent to the specificity and plurality of Kiev and Lviv. The hope is that the seed sewn here will grow into further fruitful interest.
