This book contains proceedings of the international conference Santini and Italy, held in Rome in June 2023. In his contribution, Augusto Roca de Amicis describes the nature of the structural relations of Santini's work to Italian architecture. Pavel Kalina discusses the development of Santini scholarship in the art historical literature of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Richard Biegel shows in his contribution that the sources of Santini's work can be found not only in Italian but also in French architecture. Michael Young's text points to the connection between Santini's architecture and contemporary literary theory and practice, which blended different languages and styles. In his article, Ulrich Fürst stresses the importance of a sense of originality for the design of the Benedictine monastery church at Rajhrad, whose construction demonstrated its independence from the monastery of Břevnov, for which the Dientzenhofers worked. Johana Bronková explores the relationship between Santini's architecture and the work of the great Italian architect Francesco Borromini. Marisa Tabarrini presents a completely new discovery - the unknown plans of Santini's church of St. Peter and Paul in Prague's Zderaz. Important for understanding the functioning of Baroque buildings is the article by Jakub Řehak, who analyses the water and ventilation system of the monastery in Plasy. On the other hand, Madleine Riedenklau's text is devoted to the literature on the monastery and church in Sedlec. Irena Bukačová introduces the reader to the past and present of the pilgrimage site in Mariánská Týnice.

Anglická spisovatelka Jane Austenová (16. 12. 1775 – 18. 7. 1817) vyrůstala a žila mezi venkovskou nižší šlechtou, a proto se toto prostředí objevuje i v jejích románech. Hlavní postavou je skoro vždy mladá žena, která se svou inteligencí a morální silou odlišuje od ostatních. Romány popisují klidný venkovský život občas zpestřený plesem nebo výletem do provinčního města. Zabývají se osobními vztahy, spekulacemi o manželství a majetku, předpojatostí, předstíráním, sociální prestiží a ve všech se vyskytuje láska, o které se ale z důvodu rezervovanosti přímo nemluví. Možná proto, že Austenová nevěděla, jak se muži mezi sebou baví v nepřítomnosti žen, je téměř v každé scéně nějaká žena. Svůj nejlepší román Pýcha a předsudek (Pride and Prejudice) se pokoušela vydat už v roce 1797 pod názvem První dojmy (First Impressions). Ale stejně jako jiná její díla, musel být i tento román přepracován, než byl v roce 1813 vydán už pod nám známým názvem. Vy si příběh můžete přečíst ve zjednodušené angličtině. K porozumění vám pomohou český překlad, slovník i jazykové komentáře uvedené na konci knihy. Anglický text si také můžete poslechnout na nahrávkách ke stažení.

Utopian thought and experimental approaches to societal organization have been rare in the last decades of planning and politics. Instead, there is a widespread belief in ecological modernization, that sustainable societies can be created within the frame of the current global capitalist world order by taking small steps such as eco-labeling, urban densification, and recycling. However, in the context of the current crisis in which resource depletion, climate change, uneven development, and economic instability are seen as interlinked, this belief is increasingly being questioned and alternative developmental paths sought. This collection demonstrates how utopian thought can be used in a contemporary context, as critique and in exploring desired futures. The book includes theoretical perspectives on changing global socio-environmental relationships and political struggles for alternative development paths, and analyzes micro-level practices in co-housing, alternative energy provision, use of green space, transportation, co-production of urban space, peer-to-peer production and consumption, and alternative economies. Práce se zabývá jejich kulturou a soustředí se na nejvýznamnější soudobý toradžský rituál – pohřeb. Její jádro je rozděleno do dvou kapitol – první z nich představuje etnikum Toradžů a důležité aspekty jejich kultury, druhá kapitola je založena především na výsledcích terénního výzkumu autorky. Zabývá se tím, co se stane s duší zesnulého člověka podle náboženství Aluk Todolo, jak musí pozůstalí naložit s jeho tělem a do jaké míry společenský původ ovlivňuje ještě i v současnosti typ a délku funerálního rituálu Cílem této knihy je nastínit podobu funerálního rituálu v jeho původní formě a zachytit zásadní sociální a náboženské změny, ke kterým dochází v toradžské společnosti od počátku 20. století, kdy na jejich území vstoupili první nizozemští misionáři. Autorka knihy se snažila zjistit, do jaké míry jsou soudobé toradžské rituály synkretickým útvarem – snoubí se v nich totiž autochtonní víra Aluk Todolo a zvykové právo adat s nově přijatými náboženstvími. Práce tedy poukazuje na to, jak nově přijatá náboženství ovlivnila podobu rituálů, soustředí se zejména na jejich formální a principiální významové posuny
