The book is a compilation of articles I wrote for my daily blog on Facebook. The focal point is the life of the everyday, beaten-down writer and what it takes to be a writer facing the ordinary adversities of the craft. I don't try to sugarcoat anything; instead, I attempt to let you know what it means to be a functioning writer who struggles for each word, and struggles with the lack of financial and commercial success. How does the ordinary writer who works at a mundane job by day and writes by night hold it together? How do they continue to be productive? How do they continue to inspire themselves in a world that doesn't care? How do they keep themselves from becoming bored? All of this is explored in the articles contained in this small book on the creative writing process. I hope it can act as an inside look to all those interested in the subject or working in the field.

So what's middle age anyway except a state of mind that some struggle to get through and overcome. Here's a collection of poems that deals with the everything that come with it. The book opens with: STRUMMING THROUGH MIDDLE AGE: Strumming as in humming, humming as in thumbing, thumbing as in reclining through life without the will to sit up. Passing shapes, passing figures, stick figures, strumming by, running by. Running? Really running, not strumming. Man on your left, lady on your right, running. Gone today, gone tomorrow. Whose strumming now? Me, you, him? Whose humming, me, you, him? Whose doing anything? Me, you, him? Who cares, don't care, fail to care. So strumming, running, humming, strumming, through, life, and, failing to care, bare, or witness the stare, failing to care and strumming.

“One of the few truly helpful books on fiction writing.” —Chicago Tribune Go beyond Stephen King’s On Writing to master the fundamentals of great storytelling with this foundational guide that reveals the essential elements of what makes the best fiction. The Art of Creative Writing is a timeless testament to the power of dialogue and character development that is accessible for every level of writer from beginner to established author. As in the bestselling The Art of Dramatic Writing, still considered one of the most essential books on playwriting more than 75 years after publication, the author outlines in detail his highly acclaimed Egri Method of Creative Writing and shows how to apply it to all fiction formats—novels, short stories, and screenplays. Grounded in Egri’s assertion that “Every type of creative writing depends upon the credibility of a character,” here is concise, clear advice on the most important element of good writing: characterization. Step by step, Egri shows writers how to probe the secrets of human motivation to create flesh-and-blood characters who create suspense and conflict, and who grow emotionally under stress and strain. As practical as it is inspiring, The Art of Creative Writing remains a timeless, illuminating guide that teaches every writer, and aspiring writer, how to create works that are both compelling and enduring.

Everybody does it; everybody has to do it; everybody has to live through it. Whether you're born of wealth or into poverty, you cannot avoid it! Work, as in going to work, that's it. Work, it's the crux of the matter for those who live on Earth. Today, most toil at jobs in modern office buildings with computers and gadgets to process and transmit digitized information. Who do we work for? In one way or another, for major corporations that control all. We workers are specs in the system. Our lives are consumed in that system. That's why we need to take a closer at what the job means. Who is your boss? Who are your co-workers? How do you fit in? What is the significance for you? How does it all relate? The poetry collection explores this world from a personal angle. Hopefully, it'll make you reflect. That's the goal anyway. Here is a portion of one of the poems: ***BAD SURROUNDING, GOOD GUY*** Not good people, but good guy, place where I work, not good people, but good guy. He, him, slightly befuddled gent, trying to do the right thing in a wrong situation, he, gent, the man with the beard, attempting to right the wrongs of a wrong place of employment. He, the good guy in the bad place, defined, good heart, seeking justice, plain without motivation of self, helping when help is needed, him, the good guy restoring faith in a place, department, without face.

The Burning Cauldron And Working Towards Death written by Elias Sassoon and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-01 with Philosophy categories.

The Burning Cauldron & Working Towards Death are two essays that philosophically delve into the inner world of one character's contorted thoughts. Here are a few excerpts: ....What's this book about? Not into judgment even based on scientific observation. Anyway, not sure what anything is or is supposed to be. Just know that the book is not an entertaining story of between two hundred and a thousand pages that is only a cracked mirror held up to the human soul and found wanting. The book is just a string of words that seek to instruct, to lead, to influence and take you into the world of false illusions. The genre used? Philosophy, history, sociology, autobiography and everything in between. The moral of the story then, the need to define leads us only to confine. ....What do I care about appearances anymore? At my age, it doesn't matter. Who the hell are they to judge? It's all passing. You die. I die. Appearances die. Simple. We all know that, yet cling to the inanity of trying to please and setting value by their values. ....Defining self. Long winded. Defining self more. Oblivious, not aware of the outside world of adults. Me, aware of sensation only, relating only to what I can touch and feel; biological necessities. Adults betray me. Too serious; don't enjoy themselves; always worrying about money. Kids are different. No constraints or hidden thoughts or meanings. Autobiography right there. ....Love the concept of wishing. It's the idea of creation of a world all your own. How many hours have I spent alone wishing an ideal into existence. You can shape the world the way you want it. You are what you think and keep others out. You are the great gatekeeper. Thus, the negative, the cruel, the hurtful can be banished. ....It's been written millions of times by other writers, but so what, here it is. Must I live my life to avoid what's been done previous to my birth. Should I stop eating and defecating because it has been done trillions of times before by others? No. My motto then, do as you wish, wish as you do.

In a series of conversational observations and meditations on the writing process, The Art of Slow Writing examines the benefits of writing slowly. DeSalvo advises her readers to explore their creative process on deeper levels by getting to know themselves and their stories more fully over a longer period of time. She writes in the same supportive manner that encourages her students, using the slow writing process to help them explore the complexities of craft. The Art of Slow Writing is the antidote to self-help books that preach the idea of fast-writing, finishing a novel a year, and quick revisions. DeSalvo makes a case that more mature writing often develops over a longer period of time and offers tips and techniques to train the creative process in this new experience. DeSalvo describes the work habits of successful writers (among them, Nobel Prize laureates) so that readers can use the information provided to develop their identity as writers and transform their writing lives. It includes anecdotes from classic American and international writers such as John Steinbeck, Henry Miller, Virginia Woolf and D. H. Lawrence as well as contemporary authors such as Michael Chabon, Junot Diaz, Jeffrey Eugenides, Ian McEwan, and Salman Rushdie. DeSalvo skillfully and gently guides writers to not only start their work, but immerse themselves fully in the process and create texts they will treasure.

The Soul Of Creative Writing written by Richard Goodman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

"I have a faith in language," said the poet W. S. Merwin. "It's the ultimate achievement that we as a species have evolved so far." Language is a deep ocean of living words, as varied as undersea life. It is a gift inherited by each person when he or she is born; it can be corrupted and regulated, but it cannot be owned. It is an enormous, complex, inexhaustible gift. The Soul of Creative Writing is a tribute to language and to its potentials. It explores the elements of language, style, rhythm, sound, and the choice of the right word. Richard Goodman paints an image of how language can produce a life and meaning that otherwise cannot exist in the symbols themselves.Goodman's stunningly creative collection was written after a lifetime of working and struggling with language. He collects rich examples from writers of the past and present, both great and small, and uses them to illustrate how each element of our written language can be used. The book begins with an analysis of words and how they can be used to create music on the page. Goodman uncovers the strength of words, writing about the shades of meaning that make the search for the exact word both arduous and immensely rewarding. He discusses how to find the proper title and how to find a fitting subject. He show how to create nonfiction work that is vivid and memorable through the use of the same techniques fiction writers employ.Goodman's volume is written with humor and clarity--with fascination and reverence. Writers will find it an indispensable source of creative inspiration and instruction. In Goodman's words, "reading is a tour of a writer's efforts at manipulating language to create art, to create flesh and blood and mountains, cities, homes, and gardens out of inky symbols on the page." To literary critics, this book will be a guide to understanding the tools and devices of great writing.

Poems of all sorts begun over forty years ago in another century, in another country but on the same continent. Poems, word associations that are supposed to associate the physical and mental with the act of living in a world that is in a solar system that is part of a universe that we can never imagine. Poems, what types? Love poems with creamy insides, poems of longing with caramel outsiders; poems of regret basted in citric acid; poems of guilt punctured by rusted, metal daggers, poems of all sorts, yes. Here is just onme of them: Wind In Life, Pushing, Shoving & Breaking Bread In the air, atmosphere Banging against the skin, my skin Wind, piercing, ripping, taming Smashing you. Smashing You. Smashing humanity that is you. Wind, in my name The Lord's name The one lord or the many lords Banging away Ripping away Tearing away everything but the soul of the original one. In the air Atmosphere - SASSOON AS AN OBSERVER OF THE UNIVERSE

The novel opens with the thoughts of our main character, one isolated American man. "Sitting here, not so bad, the last white man in Flushing, not so bad. Being here, in this apartment, not so bad. Noise, yes, but can live with that, I think. Not so bad. But, probably, cause I keep saying, not so bad, you really think it is, bad that is. Maybe I should say something like it's tolerable. That's right, tolerable in Flushing, the last white male living, a foreigner in my own neighborhood, isolated from all. Flushing tolerable, historical, established in the seventeenth century by the Dutch Never know it if you looked at Flushing today with its Asian Pagodas and signs in Korean and Chinese - fascinating place, especially for me, a writer. Asians today, Dutch yesterday. Who tomorrow? Reminds me, Asians. Mysterious. Keep to themselves, quiet and shrewd. Can't relate. Why bother? At fifty, it's no big deal anymore. Closer to the grave than to life Just leave me alone." Here we have it!
