Mother Earth is undergoing an environmental upheaval never seen before. The unprecedented number of people bearing down on earth have greatly affected the environment of the planet. Whether we are rich or poor, developed or underdeveloped nations, we are all together for better or for worse for the health of this planet. Of all the problems besieging the planet, the rampant deforestation is probably the single most important problem we face today. The ecological problems directly and indirectly connected with deforestation are numerous and require immediate remedies. Global warming and loss of biodiversity are two problems of universal ramification for mankind that need to be resolved if mankind is to continue to exist for the next thousand years. After air, water, and food, trees are the most important natural resources that mankind need. It is also one of the most important renewable resources that will serve mankind for eons if we only learn to respect the role they play in our lives. Since men first walked on the planet, he was surrounded by trees with all their food and wildlife for his benefit. For centuries, it has provided mankind with all the survival kits necessary for him to survive the harsh climate. With so much of our forests lost to human needs and greed, it is necessary for us to change the way we look at the trees. In this book, I have tried to set down the many causes of deforestation and howto minimize the problems. The first part of the book from Chapters 1 to 10 have to do with the importance of the forests relative to our existence. As much as possible examples of the numerous causes are cited and from time to time, a solution is suggested. The second part from Chapters 11 to 19 has to do mainly with the many uses of trees and forest products and the ways and means of I reducing deforestation and improving the forest stands for the future. The concluding chapter 20 is used to summarize in a nutshell all the suggested things we can and should do if we are going the protect the environ- ment we have borrowed from those who will inherit from us.

What kind of world will our children have to deal with in the future? The World Bank recently released their report on climate change titled, “Turn Down the Heat.” Bringing together the results of a comprehensive research effort, the report suggests that unless human beings take action to reduce their impact on Mother Earth, the world is likely to be warmer by more than 4 degrees Celsius(7.2 degrees Fahrenheit) in the next hundred years. This will not be the end. Further warming of over 6 degrees Celsius (10.8 degrees Fahrenheit) will follow in the centuries to come. This book is a call to action. Yogi, mystic and visionary, Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation and the massive environmental movement Project GreenHands, outlines the role that individuals, corporates and governments can play in controlling and reversing ecological degradation. Making it clear that “when it comes to ecological work, it is not somebody’s work, it is everybody’s work,” Sadhguru links the responsibilities of people, business and governance to address the problem with both short-term action as well as long-term vision.

The Power Of Trees written by Peter Wohlleben and has been published by Greystone Books Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-02 with Nature categories.

"Another love letter from Wohlleben to the green world... makes the case for how we should allow forests throughout the world to regrow and in the process help heal not only the climate but us, as well."—Lydia Millet, Oprah Daily An illuminating manifesto on ancient forests: how they adapt to climate change by passing their wisdom through generations, and why our future lies in protecting them. In his beloved book The Hidden Life of Trees, Peter Wohlleben revealed astonishing discoveries about the social networks of trees and how they communicate. Now, in The Power of Trees, he turns to their future, with a searing critique of forestry management, tree planting, and the exploitation of old growth forests. As human-caused climate change devastates the planet, forests play a critical role in keeping it habitable. While politicians and business leaders would have us believe that cutting down forests can be offset by mass tree planting, Wohlleben offers a warning: many tree planting campaigns lead to ecological disaster. Not only are these trees more susceptible to disease, flooding, fires, and landslides, we need to understand that forests are more than simply a collection of trees. Instead, they are ecosystems that consist of thousands of species, from animals to fungi and bacteria. The way to save trees, and ourselves? Step aside and let forests—which are naturally better equipped to face environmental challenges—heal themselves. With the warmth and wonder familiar to readers from his previous books, Wohlleben also shares emerging scientific research about how forests shape climates both locally and across continents; that trees adapt to changing environmental conditions through passing knowledge down to their offspring; and how old growth may in fact have the most survival strategies for climate change. At the heart of The Power of Trees lies Wohlleben's passionate plea: that our survival is dependent on trusting ancient forests, and allowing them to thrive. The Global Forest written by Diana Beresford Kroeger and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-07 with Science categories.

A world expert on how trees chemically affect our environment, Diana Beresford-Kroeger has woven together ecology, ancient myth, horticulture, spirituality, science and alternative medicine in The Global Forest to capture their enormous significance to us - and our future. From enormous native Savannah trees that create their own sunscreen to hedgerows that contain and entire chain of life, this book shows us the power of the global forest. Trees absorb pollutants from the ground, comb particulates from the air and house beneficial insects. But what they do chemically in the environment is something we're only beginning to understand. Trees not only breathe and communicate; they also reproduce, heal and even nurture, and each of these forty interlocking essays picks out a different aspect of the life of the forest, explains it and then shows why it is so vitally important. Combining the precision of a scientist with the lyricism of a poet, Diana Beresford-Kroeger has written an unforgettable work of natural history that shows how we really can save the Earth, one tree at a time.
