What happens when the wrench of evolution is dropped into the hopper of Christian theology? Written by a philosopher, Saving the Neanderthals takes evolution as its foil and shows what might have to change in Christian theology in order to make theology compatible with evolution. If the Christian faith is shown consistent with what Mark S. McLeod-Harrison calls “hard evolution,” then the softer versions will also be compatible. Indeed, that is exactly what the book argues, specifically for the Christian doctrines of sin and salvation. These doctrines typically rely on some fairly strong realist version of essentialism, which hard evolution denies; but McLeod-Harrison proposes an approach to sin and salvation that is compatible with the anti-essentialist claims of hard evolution.

Neanderthals are the most-researched extinct members of genus Homo. They have been gone for between 28,000 and 40,000 years, far beyond the reach of cultural memories. An expanding number of archaeologists conclude that Neanderthals are, as genetics confirms, co-human with us whose lineage emerged in Africa about 300,000 years ago. Were they the same as us? No. Do archaeological discoveries of tools and behavioral clues indicate what may have been Neanderthal religion? Taking religion as spirituality realized in common, Hughson answers the controversial question with a conjecture assisted by anthropology. Neanderthals were hunter-gatherer animists associated with bears, burials, defleshed bones, and care for invalids. Hughson goes further, exploring a theology of Neanderthal animism. He argues it was an early, non-verbal revelation of the divine. Experiential consciousness of being-alive meshed with all living things in one web of life that exceeded any living individual. Neanderthals encountered the source of being-alive filtered through nature and the cosmos. Far from complete, the encounter may have had an acuity lost to modernity and many Christians. The book concludes by relating Neanderthal religion to special revelation and biblical faith, with attention to the Gospel of John on the divine Logos and Aquinas on divine immanence.

"Save the People is engaging, funny, affecting and delightful. You’ll never have more fun learning science." --Stuart Gibbs, bestselling author of the Spy School series "Serious science and great gags, with a bit of hope thrown in.” --Steven Sheinkin, bestselling author of Bomb and Fallout An action-packed look at past, present, and future threats to humanity’s survival—with an ultimately reassuring message that humans probably have a few more millennia in us. Scientists estimate that 99% of all species that have ever existed are now extinct. Whoa. So, it's not unreasonable to predict humans are doomed to become fossil records as well. But what could lead to our demise? Supervolcanos? Asteroids? The sun going dark? Climate change? All the above?! Humans—with our big brains, opposable thumbs, and speedy Wi-Fi—may be capable of avoiding most of these nightmares. (The T. rex would be super jealous of our satellites.) But we're also capable of triggering world-ending events. Learning from past catastrophes may be the best way to avoid future disasters. Packed with science, jokes, and black and white illustrations, Save the People! examines the worst-case scenarios that could (but hopefully won’t) cause the greatest mass extinction—our own!

Neanderthals are at the center of this compelling narrative by Europe's leading anthropologist, not because they were our ancestors but because they were not. Members of a parallel humanity that evolved in Europe for hundreds of thousands of years, they were in direct competition with Cro-Magnons -- modern humans. The way Neanderthals lived and the reasons why they disappeared 50,000 years ago offer a surprising mirror in which we can examine and learn more about ourselves. Illustrated, concise and readable, this is a fascinating exploration of human origins. "Lively, personal, refreshing, and instructive, this book should be read by anyone interested in their own origins and our extinct relatives." -- Ian Tattersall, author of The Fossil Trail, The Last Neanderthal, and Becoming Human

We all have our own beliefs on the various theories of mankinds origin and most of us have chosen one theory over the other but what if we didn’t have to choose? What if there was a way to reconcile the many different ideas of creation, evolution, and the history of mankind? What if everyone was right (kind of)?

This book is based on the research performed for the Replacement of Neanderthals by Modern Humans Project. The central issue of the project is the investigation of possible differences between the two populations in cognitive ability for learning. The project aims to evaluate a unique working hypothesis, coined as the learning hypothesis, which postulates that differences in learning eventually resulted in the replacement of those populations. The book deals with relevant archaeological records to understand the learning behaviours of Neanderthals and modern humans. Learning behaviours are conditioned by numerous factors including not only cognitive ability but also cultural traditions, social structure, population size, and life history. The book addresses the issues in two parts, comparing learning behaviours in terms of cognitive ability and social environments, respectively. Collectively, it provides new insights into the behavioural characteristics of Neanderthals and modern humans from a previously overlooked perspective. Furthermore, it highlights the significance of understanding learning in prehistory, the driving force for any development of culture and technology among human society.

Without darker skin, humanity would have died out already 2.1 million years ago. And who would have guessed that Homo erectus had the ingenious skill to invent language and even the first abstract sign. Skills that reflect his incredible will to survive, which our African ancestresses and ancestors inherited from him. Because when the most devastating natural disaster in history veiled the sky red, they were on the verge of extinction. But instead of giving up, they were the firsts on earth to invent the writing. Aba de Bright, using new archaeological facts, traces the stony path our ancestresses and ancestors had to walk. Catches the unique moment of their greatest invention. People who, despite all adversities, got patriarchs to take over most letters of their alphabet. At last, the role of women in the invention of the writing is also becoming visible. All parts of this non-fiction novel are a passionate call against misogyny, aversion to strangers and racism.

The Nephilim, men of renown, as written in Genesis 6: 1""2, the result of the angelic cohabitating with human females. The first century church understood this to be a reality, but some church fathers considered this rendering mistranslated and even heresy. Although today many Christians do not believe this concept, the very core of Christianity epitomizes pregnancy from the mixture of flesh and spirit. The spiritual world is far more symbiotic to us than we realize. The ubiquitous presence of flesh and spirits influence our minds every day. Unfortunately, some of these spirits are malevolent in nature and are the direct cause of children being born with spiritual and physical anomalies. Can the demonic manipulate human DNA? Consider this: if a mother on crack gives birth to a crack baby, then what will a demon-possessed mother give birth to? This book is one of the most powerful I have read in a long time. When I finished the last few chapters, I physically felt my jaw drop! Don't be fooled by the length of this stunner, it makes up for any brevity by the sheer power of Mr. Yarbough's message. Amazon review by M. Haas Pharisaical Jews used ineffable names or the Tetragrammaton to invoke demons, but the seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish Chief Priest, could not use the name of Jesus Christ to exorcise a demon (Acts 19:11-16). The demon recognized Jesus and Paul but did not recognize the Jews who call on ineffable names. Jesus said He came in His Father's name (John 5:43). Is the Tetragrammaton the Father's name or is it a magic word used by the ancient Babylonians? Jesus told the Pharisees, "See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!'"(Matthew 23:38-39) Stephen's words to the Pharicees before he was martyred: Acts 7:38-43. A New York Times bestselling author and leadership coach shares his invaluable secrets for successfully motivating people to action in low-trust, high-stakes environments. For years, Scott Mann worked in low-trust, high stakes environments where nobody was coming to save him, his men, or the exhausted majority of Afghans they served. There, he learned that the best way to get big sh*t done and bridge vast divisions is to meet people where they are, not where you want them to be. He calls this approach Rooftop Leadership. Wherever you live, work, or play—in real estate, in corporate sales, in HR, for a community volunteer group, in a non-profit, in politics—the hardest thing to find these days is authentic connection with other people. The social trends and fraying of civil society after more than two years of prolonged isolation from Covid, mass technology, organizational strain, and blinking-red stress levels on our emotional dashboards have taken a toll that those of us in our own exhausted majority are only beginning to understand and appreciate. With inspiring stories about his experiences in the military and candid reflections on civilian life, Scott Mann connects readers to a more ancient, primal aspect of their nature rendered dormant by the modern world. Nobody Is Coming to Save You shows readers how to navigate the Churn that's dividing us and learn to make new and deeper connections to ourselves, to each other, and to the natural world around us.
