The author, a former school board president, public school lobbyist, and former President of the American Parents Association in Washington D.C., encourages elected officials to uphold the standards and decency reflected in the moral and spiritual foundations underlying the American Constitution and promotes a plan of action designed to restore to parents their proper role in education.

School systems nationwide are struggling to excel as they lurch from crisis to crisis-teacher shortages, school shootings, high turnover rates, weak discipline systems, and more. These things can pull the focus of school boards away from why school systems exist: to educate students. Airick Journey Crabill has a track record of helping school systems improve student literacy, numeracy, and career and college readiness rates while simultaneously strengthening the school's financial and operational standing. Great on Their Behalf is your practical guide to igniting the transformation of your school board and enabling it to create the conditions for improving what students know and can do. Step by step, the exercises in this book inspire board members to adopt a student-outcomes-focused mindset as they reevaluate their impact on those they serve. It challenges them to explore effective ways to focus on what students need. Then it provides the necessary knowledge and skills for school boards to empower their students for success.

National Education Goals written by Joint Study Group on the National Education Goals (U.S.) and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Education categories.

With the advent of the National Education Goals formulated by President Bush and the nation's governors, there is a new, nationwide environment for America's schools. Goals and objectives set at this new level imply a desire for involvement in national monitoring of local efforts to assess student, school, and district performance. Concerned about school board response to the National Education Goals, the National School Boards Association and the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Research and Improvement jointly sponsored a study group to examine why National Education Goals are being promulgated now, why they are important for local school boards, and what school boards can do to support the goals. The study group developed several general principles to apply to each goal. Essentially, the study group urges school boards to: (1) consider the National Education Goals a framework for discussing local educational improvement efforts; (2) recognize that the goals redefine board responsibilities to include advocacy for children and learning; (3) demonstrate the school board's leadership in deciding which community group has primary responsibility for achieving each goal; and (4) prepare to cooperate with community members to change the framework for strategic thinking about education. The study group also offers a framework for considering each goal at the local level and outlines ideal board responses to each of 21 objectives established for the goals. (MLH)
