Kromě silného příběhu o únosu vlastní dcery vzbudila pozornost také originální forma (text je stylizovaný jako omluva a doznání titulního protagonisty) se střídavě lyrickým, melancholickým i akčním stylem. Schrodera zařadili mezi nejlepší knihy roku v The New York Times Book Review, The Huffington Post, Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Women’s National Book Association, Cosmopolitan, The Millions.com, Publisher’s Weekly nebo v internetovém obchodě Amazon.
