Dieser Herausforderung stellt sich die Elementarisierung, die ich im Folgenden näher beleuchten möchte. In der Beschreibung des zu analysierenden Schulbuches ist auffallend, dass das Buch eine sehr moderne Gestaltung vorweist. Helle Farben, deutliche Bilder, moderne Schriften. Es deutet alles darauf hin, dass es ein modern gestaltetes Schulbuch ist, was das Erscheinungsjahr 2014 auch dokumentiert. Die Kapitel sind immer gleich aufgebaut. In dieser Arbeit wird nur auf das Kapitel „Was ist der Mensch?“ eingegangen. Das Kapitel wird mit einem seitenübergreifenden Bild eröffnet, welches zu Denkanstößen und eine erste Ideenfindung führen kann, da das Bild auf verschieden Weisen interpretiert werden kann. Drei einzelne Arbeitsaufträge auf der rechten unteren Seite laden zu erster Bearbeitung ein. Auf den folgenden Seiten arbeitet das Buch mit Texten verschiedener bekannter Autoren. Der Mittelpunkt der einzelnen Geschichten ist der Mensch und aus welchen Dimensionen er betrachtet werden kann.

This volume illustrates both theoretically and empirically the differences between religious diversity and religious pluralism. It highlights how the factual situation of cultural and religious diversity may lead to individual, social and political choices of organized and recognized pluralism. In the process, both individual and collective identities are redefined, incessantly moving along the continuum that ranges from exclusion to inclusion. The book starts by first detailing general issues related to religious pluralism. It makes the case for keeping the empirical, the normative, the regulatory and the interactive dimensions of religious pluralism analytically distinct while recognizing that, in practice, they often overlap. It also underlines the importance of seeking connections between religious pluralism and other pluralisms. Next, the book explores how religious diversity can operate to contribute to legal pluralism and examines the different types of church-state relations: eradication, monopoly, oligopoly and pluralism. The second half of the book features case studies that provide a more specific look at the general issues, from ways to map and assess the religious diversity of a whole country to a comparison between Belgian-French views of religious and philosophical diversity, from religious pluralism in Italy to the shifting approach to ethnic and religious diversity in America, and from a sociological and historical perspective of religious plurality in Japan to an exploration of Brazilian religions, old and new. Secularism: the definition of this word is as practical and urgent as income inequalities or the paths to sustainable development. In this wide-ranging analysis, Jocelyn Maclure and Charles Taylor provide a clearly reasoned, articulate account of the two main principles of secularism—equal respect, and freedom of conscience—and its two operative modes—separation of Church (or mosque or temple) and State, and State neutrality vis-à-vis religions. But more crucially, they make the powerful argument that in our ever more religiously diverse, politically interconnected world, secularism, properly understood, may offer the only path to religious and philosophical freedom. Secularism and Freedom of Conscience grew out of a very real problem—Quebec’s need for guidelines to balance the equal respect due to all citizens with the right to religious freedom. But the authors go further, rethinking secularism in light of other critical issues of our time. The relationship between religious beliefs and deeply-held secular convictions, the scope of the free exercise of religion, and the place of religion in the public sphere are aspects of the larger challenge Maclure and Taylor address: how to manage moral and religious diversity in a free society. This book is a contribution to the development of the young discipline of the didactics of the Study of Religions (Religionswissenschaft) in international perspective. Integrative religious education refers to education about different religions in classrooms with children of various religious and non-religious backgrounds. Cornerstones of recent debates about theory and methodology in the academic study of religions and in education are discussed in the first chapter. They form the basis of the following analysis and evaluation of current approaches to integrative religious education in Europe, with a special focus on England and Sweden.
