Innerhalb des Bereichs Berufsbildung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten ein neuartiges Segment ausdifferenziert, dessen Maßnahmen und Bildungsgänge aufgrund ihrer lediglich grund- bzw. teilqualifizierenden Ausrichtung in der fachwissenschaftlichen und -politischen Diskussion unter der Bezeichnung "(berufliches) Übergangssystem" subsummiert werden. Der Grundgedanke, der den Angeboten des (beruflichen) Übergangssystems zugrunde liegt, ist, dass die (erfolgreiche) Teilnahme die Aussichten der jungen Menschen auf dem Ausbildungsmarkt (oder Arbeitsmarkt) erhöht. Jedoch haben die Maßnahmen und Bildungsgänge des (beruflichen) Übergangssystems im Zeitverlauf zunehmend die Funktion eines Standstreifens für die jungen Menschen übernommen, welche die Angebote des (beruflichen) Übergangssystems überwiegend als bloße Überbrückung bis zum nächsten regulären Bewerbungstermin für die Aufnahme einer Berufsausbildung im Dualen System oder im Schulberufssystem nutzen. Obgleich dem (beruflichen) Übergangssystem folglich eine hohe Bedeutsamkeit innerhalb des Bereichs Berufsbildung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland zugemessen werden muss, konnte die zuständige wissenschaftliche Disziplin Berufs- und Wirtschaftspädagogik bislang keine wissenschaftlich begründete Antwort auf die Frage nach einer verbindlichen definitorischen Abgrenzung und Verortung des (beruflichen) Übergangssystems bereitstellen. Das vorliegende Buch möchte dazu beitragen, diese grundlegende Forschungslücke zu schließen. Dazu wird auf der Grundlage der soziologischen Systemtheorie LUHMANNS eine funktionale Analyse des Forschungsgegenstandes "(berufliches) Übergangssystem" über mehrere (Theorie-)Ebenen durchgeführt und eine Erklärung der Entstehung und Verfestigung dieses Forschungsgegenstandes bereitgestellt. Somit kann das vorliegende Buch wesentlich zur wissenschaftlichen Fundierung der Diskussion über das (berufliche) Übergangssystem sowie die beruflichen Einstiegsprozesse beitragen.
