Chapters in this book offer insights, models, strategies, and theoretically-based pedagogical approaches for K-16 instruction. The book content not only supports educators as they offer instruction in the SHTEM fields, but also enhances the (multi)literacy development of learners. Guided by Flores, Claeys, and Gist (2018), the contributors present instructional activities and research findings that promote culturally efficacious and linguistically sustaining pedagogy. The activities and findings in the book scaffold learners as they explore aspects of the SHTEM areas (e.g., medicine [epidemiology], mathematics [computations], aeronautics, engineering, oceanography). At the same time, they are given opportunities to explore science fiction writing and the biographies of women who made contributions to mathematics/science, society and the world (e.g., explorers, inventors, pioneers, practitioners). In recognition of our vibrant, multilingual society, contributions that privilege or explore biliteracy/multilingual Language Arts are presented in the edition.

The Philosophy Of Mathematics Education Today written by Paul Ernest and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-09 with Education categories.

This book offers an up-to-date overview of the research on philosophy of mathematics education, one of the most important and relevant areas of theory. The contributions analyse, question, challenge, and critique the claims of mathematics education practice, policy, theory and research, offering ways forward for new and better solutions. The book poses basic questions, including: What are our aims of teaching and learning mathematics? What is mathematics anyway? How is mathematics related to society in the 21st century? How do students learn mathematics? What have we learnt about mathematics teaching? Applied philosophy can help to answer these and other fundamental questions, and only through an in-depth analysis can the practice of the teaching and learning of mathematics be improved. The book addresses important themes, such as critical mathematics education, the traditional role of mathematics in schools during the current unprecedented political, social, and environmental crises, and the way in which the teaching and learning of mathematics can better serve social justice and make the world a better place for the future.

Insights Into The Relationships Between Humanities And Sciences written by Liliana Mammino and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2026-02-02 with Science categories.

This book offers an overview of existing and developing relationships between humanities and science, considering those that have developed throughout centuries and still persist, as well as novel relationships whose design needs to respond to modern challenges. Its content responds to modern challenges, as the relationships between humanities and sciences are becoming a hot theme, above all because of the increasing awareness of the importance of their synergies to pursue sustainability effectively, and in view of the merger of the former International Council for Science (ICS) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) into one body. The main challenge is the identification of practical routes for constructive synergies. Knowing about existing and possible synergies is the key, but this knowledge is not yet sufficiently present. How many people would be able to mention examples in which some humanities-born tool is fundamental in the sciences or some science-born tool in the humanities? The book proposes responses. Because of increasing tendencies to underestimate the roles of humanities, the book devotes extensive attention to the negative impacts resulting from the neglect of humanities-born expertise. It also sheds light on the fact that the separation between humanities and sciences is not as sharply defined as often assumed. This book is of great value to students, teachers and researchers (at any level) who wish to broaden their professional perspectives or attain a more complete understanding of human intellectual activities. It can also be useful to anybody who has to make decisions about curricula and educational approaches.

The Foundations Of A Democratic Economy written by Robert Henman and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-11-03 with Political Science categories.

The relationship between economic theory and political policy is currently undermined by a lack of science in establishment economics. This book outlines some of the problems with establishment economics and how an adequate science of economics would provide a foundation supporting democracy. It goes further by addressing the problems with education that inhibit the development of humanity for zones of enquiry such as economics, politics and political careers. This is followed by solutions to the problems in education as well as a method of science designed to implement a control of human meaning in education generally and subsequently in economics. The author draws on the thought of Bernard Lonergan, a Canadian philosopher, to develop the positions on economics and education expressed in this book. This book would function well as an Introduction to political science, as well as discourse on political and economic theory in the 21st century. It will also aid the average reader in understanding the geopolitical and economic turmoil of the 21st century.
