Survive the Night. Suffer the Day.Every day, I pray my sister survived the wasteland--and that the bond between us will be enough for me to find her.One hundred and sixty-seven years ago, a solar coronal mass ejection devastated civilization. In the blink of an eye, modern technology died. Destroying the grid might not have brought about our end, but the solar superstorm blighted the land and made us sick. After the crisis, lawlessness ruled, and societies fell. This is the hellish world my sister Ash and I grew up in. If it's not the landscape trying to kill you, the wailers who roam the wasteland at night will. Now our home, The Park, teeters on the brink of extinction. When the annual shipment of supplies from Low Tide outpost failed to arrive, my sister led a small scouting party to find out what happened. But she never came back. No one did. I can either hope for a miracle or mourn her for dead. I can't live with either option. The elders won't let me leave. But nothing will keep me from Ash. The unexpected arrival of The Dead Troupe--part-nomads, part-performers--offers an unexpected opportunity to find her. Now I just need to survive the sunburnt earth where the wailers roam and none but the Dead Troupe survive.Join Keyes in her search for Ash in this post-apocalypse CME fiction with solarpunk and steampunk elements, Scorched: The Last Nomads, The Burnt Earth Series Book One.

Life on the streets is very hard. Between 2016 and 2017, I spent an entire year as a homeless person on the streets of Rome. This short manual, or guide, is a more or less detailed account of the experiences I had during this time and the "skills" I learned there to survive in a hostile and sometimes ruthless environment, where dangers are always lurking around the corner and present themselves whenever you least expect them. I hope it will come in handy both as a "handbook" for those who in the course of their existence should find themselves having to walk this sad and dangerous path; and for those who want to understand what it really means to live on the streets in the 21st century. This is not an official handbook or guide, like a programming manual or one on Army tactical warfare. It has a personal slant and is somewhere between an account of my experiences and a list of practical, common sense advice that would be useful to keep in mind if you find yourself in that sad condition of life. It is not a list of addresses or emergency phone numbers (which though is provided at the end of the guide) when an attempt to share what I learned during that long year spent in Rome in 2017. Hence my idea to publish it in three languages (English, German, and Italian), so that it may also be useful to a broader, international audience, as I did previously with my essay "The Yoke." Undoubtedly the "street" is also a school of life, but it is a hard school, sad and from which one often never returns to normal life, as it is easy to be sucked into what I would like to define as a parallel dimension of existence that beyond a certain threshold no longer has any connection with the "normal" world. It is a dimension in which I, at times, was also happy, if I may use this term, in that I was relieved of the burden of bourgeois existence, made up of debts, bills to pay and commitments to fulfill, ending up even seeing glimmers of a more authentic existence, thus confirming the Gospel teaching on poverty and simplicity. I, on the way, was at times "freed" from my slavery to money and success, and saw things in a different light that made me feel freer than I do now in my daily life as a writer and translator. Having said that, I don't want to make here either an apologia for poverty or a suggestion to undertake this life because it is not chosen, but imposed by chance and often by misfortune, and of course I am careful not to say that it is a life like any other or better. Absolutely not. Nor do I think I will ever return to it, as that would be profoundly wrong and immoral. Those who can, have the right and the duty to do what is possible to climb the slope and return to the world of men, but this does not mean that even those who lead the nomadic and stray life of the homeless out of sad necessity, among a thousand hardships, deprivations and dangers, do not also have the opportunity to be, if not happy, at least perhaps somewhere and at some time truly free.

From beyond the unknowns of the Mighty Brim Mountains of the west they camehordes of nomadic giants called Troguares led by a merciless warlord, Obizar, their king. With the use of dark sorcery and having an insatiable appetite to conquer an entire world, he and his armies slowly swept across the land for nearly thousand years, bringing kingdom after kingdom of men to their knees, leaving death and destruction in their wake. While both enslaving and supplementing them as food, he held all mankind with an iron grip. While the names of both giants and men faded through time, there was one constant that remainedthe name of Obizar, known to all as the immortal giant, leaving all to ponder his secret until the day came when Champions shall once again rise to challenge the very fabric of Obizars rule in a life-and-death struggle to restore mankind once again to its place on top of this vast, distant world known as Tyrus.

"Nomadic Empires sheds new light on 2,000 years of military history and geopolitics. The Mongol Empire of Genghis-Khan and his heirs, as is well known, was the greatest empire in world history. For 2,000 from the fifth century b.c. to the fifteenth century a.d., the steppe areas of Asia, from the borders of Manchuria to the Black Sea, were a ""zone of turbulence,"" threatening settled peoples from China to Russia and Hungary, including Iran, India, the Byzantine empire, and even Syria. It was a true world stage that was affected by these destructive nomads. This cogent, well-written volume examines these nomadic people, variously called Indo-Europeans, Turkic peoples, or Mongols. They did not belong to a sole nation or language, but shared a strategic culture born in the steppes: a highly mobile cavalry which did not require sophisticated logistics, and an indirect mode of combat based on surprise, mobility, and harassment. They used bows and arrows and, when they were united under the authority of a strong leader, were able to become a deadly threat to their sedentary neighbors.Chaliand addresses the subject from four perspectives. First, he examines the early nomadic populations of Eurasia, and the impact of these nomads and their complex relationships with settled peoples. Then he describes military fronts of the Altaic Nomads, detailing events from the fourth century b.c. through the twelfth century a.d., from the early Chinese front to the Indo-Iranian front, the Byzantine front, and the Russian front. Next he covers the undertakings of the great nomad conquerors that brought about the Ottoman Empire. And finally, he describes what he calls ""the revenge of the sedentary peoples, exploring Russia and China in the aftermath of the Mongols. The volume includes a chronology and an annotated bibliography. Now in paperback, this cogent, well-written volume examines these nomadic people, variously called Indo-Europeans, Turkic peoples, or "

The stories encapsulated in this anthology are windows into the nomadic world—a realm where every step is a dance with the unpredictable, every encounter is a brush with the extraordinary, and every horizon is an invitation to explore the unknown. Each tale is a thread in the grand tapestry of nomadic lore, weaving together the experiences of those who have roamed the earth in search of freedom, wisdom, and the thrill of the undiscovered. As you delve into these narratives, you will traverse scorching deserts with Mirage Nomads, witness audacious archery challenges with Thunder striders, and join the rebellion with Liberation Nomads in the Unbridled Wastes. The nomads you encounter will be both familiar and foreign, embodying the diversity of cultures, landscapes, and challenges that define the nomadic way of life. The allure of nomadism lies not only in the physical landscapes explored but also in the internal odysseys undertaken by these wanderers. Nomads navigate not only the external terrains of mountains, jungles, and oceans but also the vast landscapes within themselves—their fears, aspirations, and the eternal pursuit of freedom.
