Although the standard model of particle physics has been very successfull in describing nature it needs to be extended by the Higgs mechanism to explain the particle masses observed in experiments. This mechanism introduces a new elementary particle called the Higgs boson. Current research at particle accelerators focuses on the search for the Higgs boson as a major goal. This analysis uses the data recorded with the D0-detector of the Tevatron at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL). The Tevatron collides protons and antiprotons at a center of mass energy of √s=1.96 TeV. The primary goal of the analysis was the search for a light Higgs boson in the WH channel. For this the process pp→ WH → ev bb was used. Furthermore a measurement of the Wbb production cross section has been performed. For the measurements a total intagrated luminosity of L=255pb-1 was available. For the selection of the desired processes events with electrons, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets have been used. At least two of the jets were required to be identified as b-jets. To obtain an efficient event selection many event properties had to be calculated and methods to cut on them needed to be optimized. Based on the selected events the Wbb production cross section has been calculated. After includinng the branching ratio BR(W→ev)=0.108 the result is ?(Wbb)=21.8 pb (+15.5; -20.0 pb(sys+stat)) for events where the b-quarks satisfy p_T>8 GeV und.

The final state considered is a pair of b jets with large missing transverse energy, as expected from p$ar{p}$→ ZH → v$ar{v}$b$ar{b}$ production. The search is also sensitive to the WH → lvb$ar{b}$ channel, where the charged lepton is not identified. Boosted decision trees are used to discriminate signal from background. Good agreement is observed between data and expected backgrounds, and, for a Higgs-boson mass of 115 GeV, a limit is set at 95% C.L. on the cross section multiplied by branching fraction of (p$ar{p}$ → (Z/W)H) × (H → b$ar{b}$) that is a factor 4.57 expected and 3.73 observed larger than the value expected from the standard model.

We present the results of a search for a very light CP-odd Higgs boson a1° originating from top quark decays t → H{sup {+-}}b → W{sup {+-}(*)} a1° b, and subsequently decaying into??−. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb−1 collected by the CDF II detector in p{bar p} collisions at 1.96 TeV, we perform a search for events containing a lepton, three or more jets, and an additional isolated track with transverse momentum in the range 3 to 20 GeV/c. Observed events are consistent with background sources, and 95% C.L. limits are set on the branching ratio of t → H{sup {+-}}b for various masses of H{sup {+-}} and a1°.

The authors present a search for the Higgs boson in the process q{bar q} → ZN → l+l− b{bar b}. The analysis uses an integrated luminosity of 1 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions produced at √s = 1.96 TeV and accumulated by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II). They employ artificial neural networks both to correct jets mismeasured in the calorimeter, and to distinguish the signal kinematic distributions from those of the background. They see no evidence for Higgs boson production, and set 95% CL upper limits on [sigma]{sub ZH} · [Beta](H → b{bar b}), ranging from 1.5 pb to 1.2 pb for a Higgs mass (m{sub H}) of 110 to 150 GeV/c2.

In this Thesis the electro-weak spontaneous symmetry breaking of the Standard Model (SM) is studied by searching for the scalar Higgs particle in the proton antiproton collisions of the Tevatron collider, at the center of mass energy √s = 1.96 TeV. We report on the inclusive search for the Higgs boson decaying to two W bosons in the final state characterized by two charged leptons (e or [mu]) and two neutrinos. The analysis of 4.8 fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) shows no evidence of its production. We set 95% Confidence Level upper limits on the production cross section as a function of the mass $m_H$ in the range 110 to 200 GeV/$c^2$. For $m_H$ = 165 GeV/$c^2$ the observed limit is 1.3 times the SM predicted cross section ([sigma]H); the expected limit, in absence of signal, is 1.2+0.6 -0.4[sigma](H). These limits are the most stringent ones set by a single experiment up to date, for $m_H$ > 130 GeV/c2.

We present a search for a standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W boson using 2.7 fb−1 of integrated luminosity of p{bar p} collision data taken at √s = 1.96 TeV. Limits on the Higgs boson production rate are obtained for masses between 100 GeV/c2 and 150 GeV/c2. Through the use of multivariate techniques, the analysis achieves an observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limit of 5.6 (4.8) times the theoretically expected production cross section for a standard model Higgs boson with a mass of 115 GeV/c2.

A search for a narrow Higgs boson resonance in the diphoton mass spectrum is presented based on data corresponding to 7.0 fb−1 of integrated luminosity from p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF experiment. No evidence of such a resonance is observed, and upper limits are set on the cross section times branching ratio of the resonant state as a function of Higgs boson mass. The limits are interpreted in the context of the standard model and one fermiophobic benchmark model where the data exclude fermiophobic Higgs bosons with masses below 114 GeV/c2 at a 95% Bayesian credibility level.
