Advances In Jet Substructure At The Lhc written by Roman Kogler and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-10 with Science categories.
This book introduces the reader to the field of jet substructure, starting from the basic considerations for capturing decays of boosted particles in individual jets, to explaining state-of-the-art techniques. Jet substructure methods have become ubiquitous in data analyses at the LHC, with diverse applications stemming from the abundance of jets in proton-proton collisions, the presence of pileup and multiple interactions, and the need to reconstruct and identify decays of highly-Lorentz boosted particles. The last decade has seen a vast increase in our knowledge of all aspects of the field, with a proliferation of new jet substructure algorithms, calculations and measurements which are presented in this book. Recent developments and algorithms are described and put into the larger experimental context. Their usefulness and application are shown in many demonstrative examples and the phenomenological and experimental effects influencing their performance are discussed. A comprehensive overview is given of measurements and searches for new phenomena performed by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. This book shows the impressive versatility of jet substructure methods at the LHC.

Search For Dark Matter In Proton Proton Collisions At 8 Tev With Missing Transverse Momentum And Vector Boson Tagged Jets written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with categories.
A search is presented for an excess of events with large missing transverse momentum in association with at least one highly energetic jet, in a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The results are interpreted using a set of simplified models for the production of dark matter via a scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, or axial vector mediator. Additional sensitivity is achieved by tagging events consistent with the jets originating from a hadronically decaying vector boson. This search uses jet substructure techniques to identify hadronically decaying vector bosons in both Lorentz-boosted and resolved scenarios. This analysis yields improvements of 80% in terms of excluded signal cross sections with respect to the previous CMS analysis using the same data set. No significant excess with respect to the standard model expectation is observed and limits are placed on the parameter space of the simplified models. Mediator masses between 80 and 400 GeV in the scalar and pseudoscalar models, and up to 1.5 TeV in the vector and axial vector models, are excluded.

This thesis reports the latest measurements on one of the leading dark matter searches conducted by the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN, leading to some of the most stringent constraints on hypothesized interactions between the Higgs boson and dark matter. The thesis also includes further research about the future outlook of the experiment, including exploratory research on the adaptation of deep learning models in future dark matter analyses to improve analysis sensitivity, and the design of a new type of data processing hardware to be used in the next phase of the CMS experiment.

Electroweak Physics At The Lhc written by Matthias U. Mozer and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-24 with Science categories.
The book discusses the recent experimental results obtained at the LHC that involve electroweak bosons. The results are placed into an appropriate theoretical and historical context. The work pays special attention to the rising subject of hadronically decaying bosons with high boosts, documenting the state-of-the-art identification techniques and highlighting typical results. The text is not limited to electroweak physics in the strict sense, but also discusses the use of electroweak vector-bosons as tool in the study of other subjects in particle physics, such as determinations of the proton structure or the search for new exotic particles. The book is particularly well suited for graduate students, starting their thesis work on topics that involve electroweak bosons, as the book provides a comprehensive description of phenomena observable at current accelerators as well as a summary of the most relevant experimental techniques.

This thesis describes in detail a search for weakly interacting massive particles as possible dark matter candidates, making use of so-called mono-jet events. It includes a detailed description of the run-1 system, important operational challenges, and the upgrade for run-2. The nature of dark matter, which accounts for roughly 25% of the energy-matter content of the universe, is one of the biggest open questions in fundamental science. The analysis is based on the full set of proton-proton collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at √s = 8 TeV. Special attention is given to the experimental challenges and analysis techniques, as well as the overall scientific context beyond particle physics. The results complement those of non-collider experiments and yield some of the strongest exclusion bounds on parameters of dark matter models by the end of the Large Hadron Collider run-1. Details of the upgrade of the ATLAS Central Trigger for run-2 are also included.

Results of a search for new phenomena in events with large missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson decaying to two photons are reported. Data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb-1 have been collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The observed data are well described by the expected standard model backgrounds. Upper limits on the cross section of events with large missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson candidate are also placed. Exclusion limits are presented for models of physics beyond the standard model featuring dark-matter candidates.

Search For Dark Matter And Unparticles In Events With A Z Boson And Missing Transverse Momentum In Proton Proton Collisions At Sqrt S written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with categories.
A search for dark matter and unparticle production at the LHC has been performed using events containing two charged leptons (electrons or muons), consistent with the decay of a Z boson, and large missing transverse momentum. This study is based on data collected with the CMS detector in 2015, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at the LHC, at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No excess over the standard model expectation is observed. Compared to previous searches in this topology, which exclusively relied on effective field theories, the results are interpreted in terms of a simplified model of dark matter production for both vector and axial vector couplings between a mediator and dark matter particles. The first study of this class of models using CMS data at sqrt(s)=13 TeV is presented. Additionally, effective field theories of dark matter and unparticle production are used to interpret the data.

"This dissertation presents a novel search for new physics using the full Run 2 dataset of 137.6 fb-1 collected by the Compact Muon Solenoid during proton-proton runs of the Large Hadron Collider. The new physics in question is dark matter production in a unique signature called semi-visible jets. Semi-visible jets are produced when a new massive mediator particle emerges from the proton-proton interaction. This mediator then decays to unstable dark matter particles which hadronize and produce a mixture of standard model particles and stable dark matter particles. The stable dark particles are only detectable as missing transverse momentum, and the standard particles are detectable as jets. This produces a signature where two jets are produced, one of which is aligned with the total missing transverse momentum. The search is presented in two phases: a classical cut-based search which uses a series of cuts based on event kinematics to select events which look like the signal signature, and a machine learning based search which uses a technique called boosted decision trees to identify semi-visible jets in a more powerful but model-dependent way. No evidence for Physics Beyond the Standard Model is observed in either search. The classical search excludes the possibility that the mediator could have a mass between 1.5 TeV and 3.98 TeV, while the model-dependent search excludes mediators with masses between 1.5 TeV and 5.08 TeV. Additionally, ranges of other signal parameters are excluded"--Page viii.
