We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson in 4.2 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions, collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV. Selected events contain one reconstructed Z --> ll− candidate and at least two jets, including at least one b-tagged jet. In the absence of an excess over the background expected from other standard model processes, limits on the ZH cross section multiplied by the branching ratios are set. The limit at M{sub H} = 115 GeV is a factor of 5.9 larger than the standard model prediction.

We present new limits on resonant tb production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using 1.9 fb−1 of data recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We reconstruct a putative tb mass in events with a lepton, neutrino candidate, and two or three jets, and search for anomalous tb production as modeled by W′ → tb. We set a new limit on a right-handed W′ with standard model-like coupling, excluding any mass below 800 GeV at 95% C.L. For any narrow W′-like state with mass above 800 GeV, the cross-section is found to be less than 0.28 pb at 95% C.L. We also present an exclusion of the W′ coupling strength versus W′ mass.

Between 1992 to 1996, the CDF and D0 detectors each collected data samples exceeding 100 pb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. These data sets led to a large number of precision measurements of the properties of B hadrons including lifetimes, masses, neutral B meson flavor oscillations, and relative branching fractions, and to the discovery of the B0 meson. Perhaps the most exciting result was the first look at the CP violation parameter sin ({vert_bar}2[beta]){vert_bar} using the world's largest sample of fully reconstructed B°/{bar B}° → J/[psi]K{sub s}° decays. A summary of this result is presented here. In the year 2000, the Tevatron will recommence p{bar p} collisions with an over order of magnitude expected increased in integrated luminosity (1 fb−1 per year). The CDF and D0 detectors will have undergone substantial upgrades, particularly in the tracking detectors and the triggers. With these enhancements, the Tevatron B physics program includes precision measurements of sin(2[beta]) and B{sub s}° flavor oscillations, as well as studies of rare B decays that are sensitive to new physics. The studies of B{sub s}° mesons will be particularly interesting as this physics will be unique to the Tevatron during the first half of the next decade.

We present a search for a narrow resonance in the t$ar{b}$ mass spectrum using 1.9 fb-1 of p$ar{p}$ collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We select events with a lepton, neutrino candidate, and two or three jets from which to construct the t$ar{b}$ mass. We quantify the result using the model of a massive Standard Model-like charged-boson (W') decaying to t$ar{b}$, but we are generally sensitive to the presence of any narrow state decaying to the third generation. For a purely right-handed W' with Standard Model couplings, we set a new limit at 95% confidence of ?(p$ar{p}$ → W'R) x BR(W'R → t$ar{b}$) 0.28 pb and MsubW'subR/sub/sub 800 GeV/c2. The limit increases to MW'R > 825 GeV/c2 if decay to right-handed neutrinos is forbidden. These results are shown in Table 7 and plotted in Figure 7.1. The best prior search found MW' Ge 768 GeV/c2 if leptonic decays are forbidden [16]. For a simple W' model with effective coupling gW', the cross-section is proportional to gW'4. Relaxing the assumption of the universal weak coupling (gW' = gW), our cross-section limits can be rewritten as upper limits on gW', as a function of MW'. This is relevant to both the right-handed W' model as well as a left-handed W' model in which the W'L-W interference is negligible. The excluded region of the gW'-MW' plane is shown in Figure 7.2, with gW' in units of gW. At MW' = 300 GeV/c2, we limit (95% C.L.) the effective coupling to be less than 0.40 of the standard weak coupling.
