Search For High Mass New Phenomena In The Dilepton Final State Using Proton Proton Collisions At Mml written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with categories.
A search is conducted for both resonant and non-resonant high-mass new phenomena in dielectron and dimuon final states. The search uses 3.2fb-1 of proton-proton collision data, collected at √s = 13TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015. The dilepton invariant mass is used as the discriminating variable. No significant deviation from the Standard Model prediction is observed; therefore limits are set on the signal model parameters of interest at 95% credibility level. Upper limits are set on the cross-section times branching ratio for resonances decaying to dileptons, and the limits are converted into lower limits on the resonance mass, ranging between 2.74 TeV and 3.36 TeV, depending on the model. As a result, lower limits on the llqq contact interaction scale are set between 16.7 TeV and 25.2 TeV, also depending on the model.

This dissertation describes a model-agnostic search for new resonant phenomena decaying to two jets (dijets) in 3.6 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energy sqrt(s)=13 TeV. The collisions were produced by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2015. A dijet invariant mass spectrum is examined for local excesses above a data-driven background estimation accounting for Standard Model production. No statistically significant excess is observed. New physics models are excluded at 95% credibility-level for quantum black holes with production mass thresholds below 5.3 TeV, 8.1 TeV, and 8.3 TeV for three different production scenarios and for excited quarks of masses less than 5.2 TeV. Furthermore, limits are provided on generic Gaussian signal shapes for additional generalization of the 2015 dijet resonant analysis search results.

Search For New Phenomena In Final States With An Energetic Jet And Large Missing Transverse Momentum In Pp Collisions At S written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with categories.
Results of a search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb–1 at √s=13 TeV collected in 2015 with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are required to have at least one jet with a transverse momentum above 250 GeV and no leptons. Several signal regions are considered with increasing missing-transverse-momentum requirements between EmissT > 250 GeV and EmissT > 700 GeV. Good agreement is observed between the number of events in data and Standard Model predictions. Here, the results are translated into exclusion limits in models with large extra spatial dimensions, pair production of weakly interacting dark-matter candidates, and the production of supersymmetric particles in several compressed scenarios.

Results are reported of a search for new phenomena, such as supersymmetric particle production, that could be observed in high-energy proton–proton collisions. Events with large numbers of jets, together with missing transverse momentum from unobserved particles, are selected. The data analysed were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2015 using the 13 TeV centre-of-mass proton–proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb-1. The search selected events with various jet multiplicities from ≥7 to ≥10 jets, and with various b-jet multiplicity requirements to enhance sensitivity. Furthermore, no excess above Standard Model expectations is observed. The results are interpreted within two supersymmetry models, where gluino masses up to 1400 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, significantly extending previous limits.

Search For New Phenomena In Dijet Mass And Angular Distributions From Pp Collisions At Sqrt S written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with categories.
This Letter describes a model-agnostic search for pairs of jets (dijets) produced by resonant and non-resonant phenomena beyond the Standard Model in 3.6 fb-1 of proton–proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The distribution of the invariant mass of the two leading jets is examined for local excesses above a data-derived estimate of the smoothly falling prediction of the Standard Model. The data are also compared to a Monte Carlo simulation of Standard Model angular distributions derived from the rapidity of the two jets. No evidence of anomalous phenomena is observed in the data, which are used to exclude, at 95% CL, quantum black holes with threshold masses below 8.3 TeV, 8.1 TeV, or 5.1 TeV5.1 TeV in three different benchmark scenarios; resonance masses below 5.2 TeV for excited quarks, 2.6 TeV in a W' model, a range of masses starting from mZ' = 1.5 TeV and couplings from gq = 0.2 in a Z' model; and contact interactions with a compositeness scale below 12.0 TeV and 17.5 TeV respectively for destructive and constructive interference between the new interaction and QCD processes. These results significantly extend the ATLAS limits obtained from 8 TeV data. As a result, gaussian-shaped contributions to the mass distribution are also excluded if the effective cross-section exceeds values ranging from approximately 50–300 fb for masses below 2 TeV to 2–20 fb for masses above 4 TeV.

At hadron colliders, new massive particles can be searched for by the observation of high transverse momentum objects forming high-mass resonances. Searches for additional massive vector bosons (W(prime), Z(prime)), Randall-Sundrum gravitons and sneutrinos in R-parity violating scenarios are performed in dilepton, dijets and diboson final states. The most recent results from the CDF and D0 experiments at the Tevatron are presented corresponding to integrated luminosities between 1 and 4 fb−1.
