I found a roof over my head wherever I could and hitched rides where I wanted to go. I then discovered that being a restaurant waiter not only brought some relief from the back-breaking work I was used to, I also got a free meal and could make a living on the tips. This also gave me more time on my hands to indulge in my writing and art and spent a lot of time reading Charles Bukowski, Oscar Wilde and Khalil Gibran and listening to Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd and Leonard Cohen. I had a few ups and downs and had to find steady employment. I ended up working at a bakery until my girlfriend at the time got me into the retail game.
