Dunia sastra hingga saat ini masih terus berusaha bangung dari keterasingannya. Namun tanpa sadar mereka sebenarnya sering bersentuhan dengan dunia sastra. Salah satu contohnya adalah ketika kita melihat status dimedia sosial, sebagian dari mereka, entah itu di facebook, twitterdan media sosial yang lainnya, status mereka rata-rata puitis dan penuh “mistis”, karena banyak dari mereka menuangkan alam pikiran distatus media sosialnya, dan banyak kata sajak-sajak mengalir tanpa mereka merasa. Ada keinginan untuk menyatukan puisi-puisi peserta didik yang mau bersastra kedalam sebuah buku kecil ini.Untuk mengumpulkan itupun tidak mudah karena membutuhkan waktu yang sedikit menguras tenaga, belum lagi ditambah harus membagi waktu belajar dan kesibukan sekolah lainnya. Terhitung awal tahun 2018 ide ini muncul, namun baru diawal tahun 2019 terealisasi. Artinya, butuh waktu 1 tahun lebih untuk mengumpulkan naskah ini. Mereka dituntut untuk membuat 1 puisi dalam 1 minggu, begitu seterusnya. Mereka ‘dipaksa’ untuk berolah sastra, belajar menulis puisi serta mengapresiasikannya. Ada keinginan untuk menyatukan puisi-puisi peserta didik yang mau bersastra ke dalam sebuah buku kecil ini.Untuk mengumpulkan itupun tidak mudah karena membutuhkan waktu yang sedikit menguras tenaga, belum lagi ditambah harus membagi waktu belajar dan kesibukan sekolah lainnya. Mereka mencoba berolah sastra, belajar menulis puisi serta mengapresiasikannya. Untuk membuat sebuah puisi saja membutuhkan waktu dan suasana yang mendukung terutama harus mempunyai sebuah tema atau ide. Faktor tersebut harus ada dalam proses pembuatan sebuah puisi, karena untuk mencari tema dan ide itu sifatnya hanya sepintas terpikirkan. Pertanyaanya bagaimana menumbuhkan ide? Ide itu datangnya tiba-tiba, maka kita perlu menediakan catatan kecil, semisal buku harian atau catatan di handphone pintar. Catatan-catatan yang datang tiba-tiba itu setelah ditulis ketika kita dalam keadaan yang tenang maka bisa digali terus menjadi sebuah puisi. Aktivitas menulis ini memang belum lengkap, namun disisi lain budaya menulis ini akan diimbangi dengan aktivitas membaca karena setelah mau menulis, biasanya akan “terpaksa” membaca, sehingga budaya yang timbul akan lengkap dengan budaya membaca dan menulis. Kedua aspek ini tentunya akan menumbuhkan karakter mereka menjadi karakter masyarakat literer yang berpotensi membangun bangsa.

Born in Ngawi, East Java, in 1932, Umar Kayam obtained his masters degree from New York University and his doctoral degree from Cornell University. It was there, in New York, where he began to hone his literary skills.
