Giovani e Mezzogiorno è stato il titolo del convegno in oggetto. I testi evidenziano una analisi della realtà meridionale, troppo spesso letteralmente dimenticata dalla politica come da tante agenzie e altrettanti intellettuali, nella convinzione del riproporsi del carattere nazionale della vicenda meridionale e delle sue contraddizioni, della risorsa che essa e tutti suoi abitanti rappresentano per lo sviluppo del paese, e del ruolo centrale che in questo processo di modernizzazione possono e devono avere i giovani e le giovani meridionali. La riflessione insiste peraltro sui processi di differenziazione interni ai territori meridionali come alla realtà giovanile, lungo le sue generazioni e le sue diverse collocazioni, ribadendo la necessità di fare di queste differenze, come anche delle disuguaglianze presenti, non solo irrinunciabile oggetto di analisi ma anche premessa di interventi la cui differenziazione è condizione anzitutto del loro reale raccordo con la realtà. La legge n. 164 del 14 aprile 1982 sulla rettificazione di attribuzione di sesso stabilisce che il Tribunale possa autorizzare l’operazione chirurgica di riassegnazione sessuale quando esistano delle condizioni psico-fisiche accertate medicalmente. Solo quando la transizione da un sesso all’altro è completata il giudice ordina la rettificazione degli atti dello stato civile per quanto riguarda il sesso e il nome. La legge lascia aperte, però, molte questioni. Tra queste le più importanti sono 1) il fatto che non vengono fissati i criteri che il giudice deve seguire nella decisione di autorizzazione dell’intervento chirurgico e 2) il fatto che la legge non interviene a tutelare i diritti delle persone in transizione. Il seguente lavoro vuole essere spunto per una discussione soprattutto su questi aspetti.

Acculturation is the process of group and individual changes in culture and behaviour that result from intercultural contact. These changes have been taking place forever, and continue at an increasing pace as more and more peoples of different cultures move, meet and interact. Variations in the meanings of the concept, and some systematic conceptualisations of it are presented. This is followed by a survey of empirical work with indigenous, immigrant and ethnocultural peoples around the globe that employed both ethnographic (qualitative) and psychological (quantitative) methods. This wide-ranging research has been undertaken in a quest for possible general principles (or universals) of acculturation. This Element concludes with a short evaluation of the field of acculturation; its past, present and future.
