Church History Study Guide, Pt. 2: 1831 to 1844. This volume is the second of three on Church History and the Doctrine and Covenants. It covers Church history during the Kirtland and Missouri periods, including a series of breathtaking revelations on temples, the Plan of Salvation, the three kingdoms of glory, the Second Coming, principles of priesthood power, the Word of Wisdom, and the Law of the Church. We also learn about fasting, tithing, missionary work, and enduring to the end. We go with the Prophet Joseph Smith and Saints through the crucible of trials in Missouri and Liberty Jail. Then we follow them on to Nauvoo, where the Kingdom rose again on the Mississippi River, work for the dead was introduced, and the law of celestial marriage was revealed. Again, persecution raised its ugly head, ending in the martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith at Carthage. In all, it covers 11 years of Church History, and covers sections 100-135 of the Doctrine and Covenants. The cover features "Brother Joseph," a beautiful portrait of the Prophet Joseph Smith, by David Lindsley.

Like the commercial about E. F. Hutton, the world is longing to eavesdrop on secret conversations that might reveal answers to our tough questions. In the same way today, God desires for us to see and hear what heaven is up to concerning us here on earth! This book gives important principles for receiving the secrets of the Lord, whether they concern things such as terrorism, violence, and natural disasters, or the daily occurrences of people in everyday life.

Religions Of The United States In Practice Volume 2 written by Colleen McDannell and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-05 with Religion categories.

Religions of the United States in Practice is a rich anthology of primary sources with accompanying essays that examines religious behavior in America. From praying in an early American synagogue to performing Mormon healing rituals to debating cremation, Volume 2 explores faith through action in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The documents and essays consider the religious practices of average people--praying, singing, healing, teaching, imagining, and persuading. Some documents are formal liturgies while other texts describe more spontaneous religious actions. Because religious practices also take place in the imagination, dreams, visions, and fictional accounts are also included. Accompanying each primary document is an essay that sets the religious practice in its historical and theological context--making this volume ideal for classroom use and accessible to any reader. The introductory essays explain the various meanings of religious practices as lived out in churches and synagogues, in parlors and fields, beside rivers, on lecture platforms, and in the streets. Religions of the United States in Practice offers a sampling of religious perspectives in order to approximate the living texture of popular religious thought and practice in the United States. The history of religion in America is more than the story of institutions and famous people. This anthology presents a more nuanced story composed of the everyday actions and thoughts of lay men and women.
