One must understand what truth is, and accept the truth, before one can recognize the lies, and the liar. A misinformed and misguided church is vulnerable to those who seek to keep her members blinded from truth, discouraged from seeking answers, and distracted from asking the right questions. The prayer is readers will receive wisdom, and consequently neither self-righteous pride nor selfish desires will blind their eyes from seeing truth (Eph. 1:17, James 4). The faithful in Christ must share wisdom with humility and love if believing Christ is the Truth and the primary source of truth. If the truth is not shared in balance with the love of Christ perhaps the instructor is misled. However, the instructor may just be misjudged for growing impatient with a faithless generation. However, even in this Christ can relate when stating, "Oh faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you" (Matt. 17: 17 KJV)? Where Christ frequently seemed frustrated with the proudful, like the self-righteous Pharisees or Sadducees, His loving attitude towards the children is clear. Therefore, the prayer is also for readers to better share the truth with their children, and to remember the child like faith they had before exiting university or seminary. One must have reverence for God when remembering the one who hinders others from seeing the truth is an enemy of truth.

Spectacles Of Truth In Classical Greek Philosophy written by Andrea Wilson Nightingale and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-08-12 with Philosophy categories.

In fourth-century Greece (BCE), the debate over the nature of philosophy generated a novel claim: that the highest form of wisdom is theoria, the rational 'vision' of metaphysical truths (the 'spectator theory of knowledge'). This 2004 book offers an original analysis of the construction of 'theoretical' philosophy in fourth-century Greece. In the effort to conceptualise and legitimise theoretical philosophy, the philosophers turned to a venerable cultural practice: theoria (state pilgrimage). In this practice, an individual journeyed abroad as an official witness of sacralized spectacles. This book examines the philosophic appropriation and transformation of theoria, and analyses the competing conceptions of theoretical wisdom in fourth-century philosophy. By tracing the link between traditional and philosophic theoria, this book locates the creation of theoretical philosophy in its historical context, analysing theoria as a cultural and an intellectual practice. It develops a new, interdisciplinary approach, drawing on philosophy, history and literary studies.

Choice Magazine Outstanding Academic Titles 2005 Winner Amidst the vast array of literature on the First Amendment, it is rare to hear a fresh voice speak about the First Amendment, but in Truth, Autonomy, and Speech, Susan H. Williams presents a strikingly original interpretation and defense of the First Amendment, written from a feminist perspective. Drawing on work from several disciplines—including law, political theory, philosophy, and anthropology—the book develops alternative accounts of truth and autonomy as the foundations for freedom of expression. Building on feminist understandings of self and the social world, Williams argues that both truth and autonomy are fundamentally relational. With great clarity and insight, Williams demonstrates that speech is the means by which we create rather than discover truth and the primary mechanism through which we tell the stories that constitute our autonomy. She examines several controversial issues in the law of free speech—including campaign finance reform, the public forum doctrine, and symbolic speech—and concludes that the legal doctrine through which we interpret and apply the First Amendment should be organized to protect speech that serves the purposes of truth and autonomy.

Truth is in trouble. In response, this book presents a new conception of truth. It recognizes that prominent philosophers have questioned whether the idea of truth is important. Some have asked why we even need it. Their questions reinforce broader trends in Western society, where many wonder whether or why we should pursue truth. Indeed, some pundits say we have become a "post-truth" society. Yet there are good reasons not to embrace the cultural Zeitgeist or go with the philosophical flow, reasons to regard truth as a substantive and socially significant idea. This book explains why. First it argues that propositional truth is only one kind of truth—an important kind, but not all important. Then it shows how propositional truth belongs to the more comprehensive process of truth as a whole. This process is a dynamic correlation between human fidelity to societal principles and a life-giving disclosure of society. The correlation comes to expression in distinct social domains of truth, where either propositional or nonpropositional truth is primary. The final chapters lay out five such domains: science, politics, art, religion, and philosophy. Anyone who cares about the future of truth in society will want to read this pathbreaking book.
