Selected Applications Of Geometry To Low Dimensional Topology written by Michael H. Freedman and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with Mathematics categories.

Based on lectures presented at Pennsylvania State University in February 1987, this work begins with the notions of manifold and smooth structures and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem, and proceeds to the topology and geometry of foliated 3-manifolds. It also explains why four-dimensional space has special attributes.

Harmonic Measure written by Luca Capogna and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Mathematics categories.

Recent developments in geometric measure theory and harmonic analysis have led to new and deep results concerning the regularity of the support of measures which behave "asymptotically" (for balls of small radius) as the Euclidean volume. A striking feature of these results is that they actually characterize flatness of the support in terms of the asymptotic behavior of the measure. Such characterizations have led to important new progress in the study of harmonic measure fornon-smooth domains. This volume provides an up-to-date overview and an introduction to the research literature in this area. The presentation follows a series of five lectures given by Carlos Kenig at the 2000 Arkansas Spring Lecture Series. The original lectures have been expanded and updated to reflectthe rapid progress in this field. A chapter on the planar case has been added to provide a historical perspective. Additional background has been included to make the material accessible to advanced graduate students and researchers in harmonic analysis and geometric measure theory.

"Over the last 20 years, the theory of Borel equivalence relations and related topics have been very active areas of research in set theory and have important interactions with other fields of mathematics, like ergodic theory and topological dynamics, group theory, combinatorics, functional analysis, and model theory. The book presents, for the first time in mathematical literature, all major aspects of this theory and its applications."--BOOK JACKET.

Lectures On Differential Galois Theory written by Andy R. Magid and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Mathematics categories.

Differential Galois theory studies solutions of differential equations over a differential base field. In much the same way that ordinary Galois theory is the theory of field extensions generated by solutions of (one variable) polynomial equations, differential Galois theory looks at the nature of the differential field extension generated by the solution of differential equations. An additional feature is that the corresponding differential Galois groups (of automorphisms of the extension fixing the base and commuting with the derivation) are algebraic groups. This book deals with the differential Galois theory of linear homogeneous differential equations, whose differential Galois groups are algebraic matrix groups. In addition to providing a convenient path to Galois theory, this approach also leads to the constructive solution of the inverse problem of differential Galois theory for various classes of algebraic groups. Providing a self-contained development and many explicit examples, this book provides a unique approach to differential Galois theory and is suitable as a textbook at the advanced graduate level.

Grobner Bases And Convex Polytopes written by Bernd Sturmfels and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Mathematics categories.

This book is about the interplay of computational commutative algebra and the theory of convex polytopes. It centres around a special class of ideals in a polynomial ring: the class of toric ideals. They are characterized as those prime ideals that are generated by monomial differences or as the defining ideals of toric varieties (not necessarily normal). The interdisciplinary nature of the study of Gröbner bases is reflected by the specific applications appearing in this book. These applications lie in the domains of integer programming and computational statistics. The mathematical tools presented in the volume are drawn from commutative algebra, combinatorics, and polyhedral geometry.

J Holomorphic Curves And Quantum Cohomology written by Dusa McDuff and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Mathematics categories.

J -holomorphic curves revolutionized the study of symplectic geometry when Gromov first introduced them in 1985. Through quantum cohomology, these curves are now linked to many of the most exciting new ideas in mathematical physics. This book presents the first coherent and full account of the theory of J -holomorphic curves, the details of which are presently scattered in various research papers. The first half of the book is an expository account of the field, explaining the main technical aspects. McDuff and Salamon give complete proofs of Gromov's compactness theorem for spheres and of the existence of the Gromov-Witten invariants. The second half of the book focuses on the definition of quantum cohomology. The authors establish that the quantum multiplication exists and is associative on appropriate manifolds. They then describe the Givental-Kim calculation of the quantum cohomology of flag manifolds, leading to quantum Chern classes and Witten's calculation for Grassmanians, which relates to the Verlinde algebra. The Dubrovin connection, Gromov-Witten potential on quantum cohomology, and curve counting formulas are also discussed.

This volume contains the conference on quantum topology, held at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, 24 - 28 March 1993.Quantum topology is a rapidly growing field of mathematics dealing with the recently discovered interactions between low-dimensional topology, the theory of quantum groups, category theory, C∗-algebra theory, gauge theory, conformal and topological field theory and statistical mechanics. The conference, attended by over 60 mathematicians and theoretical physicists from Canada, Denmark, England, France, Japan, Poland and the United States, was highlighted by lecture series given by Louis Kauffman, Univ. of Illinois at Chicago and Nicholai Reshetikhin, Univ. of Califonia, Berkeley.

Lectures On Quasiconformal Mappings written by Lars Valerian Ahlfors and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-07-14 with Mathematics categories.

Lars Ahlfors's Lectures on Quasiconformal Mappings, based on a course he gave at Harvard University in the spring term of 1964, was first published in 1966 and was soon recognized as the classic it was shortly destined to become. These lectures develop the theory of quasiconformal mappings from scratch, give a self-contained treatment of the Beltrami equation, and cover the basic properties of Teichmuller spaces, including the Bers embedding and the Teichmuller curve. It is remarkable how Ahlfors goes straight to the heart of the matter, presenting major results with a minimum set of prerequisites. Many graduate students and other mathematicians have learned the foundations of the theories of quasiconformal mappings and Teichmuller spaces from these lecture notes. This edition includes three new chapters. The first, written by Earle and Kra, describes further developments in the theory of Teichmuller spaces and provides many references to the vast literature on Teichmuller spaces and quasiconformal mappings. The second, by Shishikura, describes how quasiconformal mappings have revitalized the subject of complex dynamics. The third, by Hubbard, illustrates the role of these mappings in Thurston's theory of hyperbolic structures on 3-manifolds. Together, these three new chapters exhibit the continuing vitality and importance of the theory of quasiconformal mappings.
