Classroom management has proved to be a plaguing aspect of the teaching and learning process over the past century. This single skill has heavily contributed to teacher stress and burnout (Gordon, 2002;Jepson & Forrest, 2006), teacher turnover (Ritter & Hancock, 2007; Rosas & West, 2009), overall teacher self-efficacy (Caprara, Barbaranelli, Borgogni, & Steca, 2003; Edwards, Green, & Lyons, 2002), student achievement and teacher performance in the classroom (Edwards et al., 2002; Milner, 2002; Poulou, 2007), and is commonly a major concern of principals regarding new teachers (Principal Perspectives, 2004; Williams, 1976). The purpose of the study was to determine if novice secondary teachers feel confident in their ability to effectively manage a classroom and, if so, what variables were related to this confidence (self-efficacy). The study examined the relationship regarding novice secondary teacher self-efficacy regarding classroom management and the age of the teacher, teacher gender, teacher certification method, the presence or absence of a mentoring program during the first year of teaching, and the number of classroom management classes taken in the teacher education program. This study determined the relationship between a teacher's sense of self-efficacy as determined by the Teachers Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) and the noted factors, and examined the depth of and each factoral relation as well as group factor relation.

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to develop an understanding of how current and former middle school teachers in a suburban school district in northeast Georgia perceive low self-efficacy impacts their classroom management style. The theory guiding this study was Bandura’s (1977) self-efficacy theory as it supported the idea that self-efficacy can determine how one approaches a task, goals, or challenges. Data were collected using a survey, interviews, questionnaires, direct observations, and a focus group. A collective case study approach was used to conduct a holistic analysis to provide detailed descriptions of the themes and patterns that exist across the cases. Four themes emerged from the data analysis process: build relationships, be flexible, convey expectations, and make a difference. The themes were consistent with the relevant literature regarding teacher self-efficacy and classroom management and provided answers to the three research questions proposed in the study.

This quantitative causal-comparative study sought to determine if there was a difference in self-efficacy with classroom management between different levels of experience among teachers: pre-service, novice, mid-career, and late-career. Classroom management is an aspect of education that many teachers have famously struggled with, resulting in an increasing number of teachers leaving the field. Strong classroom management self-efficacy among teachers results in higher confidence levels for managing disruptions and unwanted behavior within the classroom. For this study, 166 participants were drawn from a convenience sample of elementary, public, and charter school teachers and pre-service teacher candidates from universities within the state of Utah. The Efficacy in Classroom Management subscale of the Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale was used to assess the strength of self-efficacy for teachers with different experience levels. An ANOVA tested if a difference in classroom management self-efficacy could be attributed to teachers with different classroom experience levels. The results of this study showed a statistically significant difference between the self-efficacy scores of novice teachers and late-career teachers. The data did not reveal a statistically significant difference between the self-efficacy scores of pre-service and mid-career teachers. This suggests that teaching experience may have some impact on self-efficacy, but other factors likely play a more significant role in determining skill in classroom management. Recommendations for future research are made, including doing a longitudinal study, different methods of data collection, or including other variables such as teacher motivation, burnout, and job satisfaction.

Teacher efficacy has been researched for over 30 years, teacher efficacy refers to the beliefs of teachers in their abilities to have an impact on classroom management. Classroom management skills have been proven to be a plaguing aspect of the teaching and learning process over the past century. This study answers question about classroom management as it pertains to teacher perceived self-efficacy in a middle school in central Pennsylvania. The findings have concluded a correlation comparison of teacher self-efficacy to characteristics of classroom management skills. Additionally, it looks at years of teaching experience, the measure of subject matter taught, and the measure of grade level taught years of teacher experience and its relationship to teachers' self-efficacy in classroom management. The earlier findings of Bandura's self-efficacy theory suggested that self-efficacy was one's "beliefs in one's capabilities to organize and execute the course of action required to produce given attainments. This mixed methods study examines a middle school in Pennsylvania and their teachers' responses on the seven subscales of Bandura's instrument Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale: Efficacy to Influence Decision Making, Efficacy to Influence School Resources, Instructional Self-Efficacy, Disciplinary Self-Efficacy, and Efficacy to Enlist Parental Involvement, Efficacy to Enlist Community Involvement and Efficacy to Create a Positive School Climate. Data was collected by using Bandura's modified survey tool and in-depth interviews consisting of teachers at the Central Pennsylvania middle school.

Teaching as a profession is becoming more and more difficult. School districts are facing a teacher shortage, creating greater focus on recruitment and retention efforts. The majority of these efforts focus on novice teachers (within the first five years) providing support and assistance to help keep them in the classroom. Less effort is placed upon assisting the veteran teacher in maintaining effort in the classroom and avoiding burnout. Those who experience burnout or become disheartened show a reduction in effort negatively impacting student achievement. The purpose of this correlational study was to explore the relationship between teacher passion and perseverance (grit) and teacher sense of self-efficacy in classroom management and student engagement among high school teachers. This study was grounded in Bandura’s self-efficacy theory, Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory, and Duckworth’s grit theory. The participants included 92 teachers drawn from a convenience sample across the four high schools in a large district in central South Carolina. Data collected from the Grit-S Scale and Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale was analyzed utilizing a product-moment correlation coefficient (Pearson’s r) to answer the questions of the relationship between grit and self-efficacy in classroom management and student engagement. This study increased the body of knowledge in the research of these constructs among veteran teachers.

Teachers' classroom management has serious implications for teachers' well-being, job satisfaction (Gale et al., 2021), burnout (Aloe Amo & Shanaha, 2014), and student outcomes (Gage, 2019). Understanding how teachers build self-efficacy for classroom management offers insights into how to provide better classroom environments for students, increase teacher retention, and sustain teacher longevity in the profession. Teachers' classroom management self-efficacy references their beliefs in their capacity to manage the classroom environment and create spaces where students learn and flourish. This correlational survey study investigated the relationship between novice teachers' perceived classroom management efficacy and the sources of their classroom management efficacy. Bandura's (1977) teacher self-efficacy theory provided the guiding theoretical framework. Tschannen-Moran and Hoy's (2001) Teacher's Sense of Efficacy Survey and Pfitzner-Eden's (2016) Sources of Efficacy survey were simultaneously administered to 104 middle school teachers to address the question of whether there is a relationship between classroom management efficacy and the sources of efficacy. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that teachers' perceptions of their classroom management efficacy (CME) correlated to the sources of efficacy; more specifically, mastery experience and verbal social persuasion were the only sources positively significantly correlated to CME and physiological states was negatively significantly correlated, suggesting that to equip beginning teachers with the skills and expertise to manage student behavior and classrooms effectively rests in providing contexts in which to develop mastery experiences with CME. The existence of a moderate correlation between the sources of efficacy and CME suggests that there may yet be other characteristics at the individual level or school level that mediate the sources of efficacy and influence teachers' perceptions of their CME. Future studies should investigate mediating influences of other variables on teachers' CME.
