This book presents a method for identifying and classifying faults using causal reasoning. It employs a similarity matrix in order to match the user activity log and its pattern in a transformed space. It then describes how to embed the self-healing policy, so that if the client has more faults related to the previous one, they can be dealt with at the client side. The book defines supporting systems architectures and includes a case study of an autonomic healing-based self-management engine.

With the current explosion in network traffic, and mounting pressure on operators’ business case, Self-Organizing Networks (SON) play a crucial role. They are conceived to minimize human intervention in engineering processes and at the same time improve system performance to maximize Return-on-Investment (ROI) and secure customer loyalty. Written by leading experts in the planning and optimization of Multi-Technology and Multi-Vendor wireless networks, this book describes the architecture of Multi-Technology SON for GSM, UMTS and LTE, along with the enabling technologies for SON planning, optimization and healing. This is presented mainly from a technology point of view, but also covers some critical business aspects, such as the ROI of the proposed SON functionalities and Use Cases. Key features: Follows a truly Multi-Technology approach: covering not only LTE, but also GSM and UMTS, including architectural considerations of deploying SON in today’s GSM and UMTS networks Features detailed discussions about the relevant trade-offs in each Use Case Includes field results of today’s GSM and UMTS SON implementations in live networks Addresses the calculation of ROI for Multi-Technology SON, contributing to a more complete and strategic view of the SON paradigm This book will appeal to network planners, optimization engineers, technical/strategy managers with operators and R&D/system engineers at infrastructure and software vendors. It will also be a useful resource for postgraduate students and researchers in automated wireless network planning and optimization.

Do you believe in open-source development? Would you like to see your security system grow and learn by itself? Are you sick of paying for software license fees every year that produce little return on investment? And, would you prefer to invest in something you could sell later on to other IT security departments? If you answered yes to these questions, then this is the book for you. Addressing the issues of fault identification and classification, Self-Healing Systems and Wireless Networks Management presents a method for identifying and classifying faults using causal reasoning—a powerful bottom up technique for deep surface and cross context correlation establishment. It explains how to employ a similarity matrix to match the user activity log and its pattern in a transformed space and discusses the development and deployment of a policy engine. The book describes how to use this self-growing policy engine in collaboration with a scheduler and plug-in bank to generate a healing policy. This healing policy presents the solution of the direct and causal fault. The author describes how to embed the solutions of the related faults in the healing policy so that if a client faces more faults related to the previous one, they can be addressed at the client side. Exploring prototype systems, the text defines supporting systems architectures and includes a case study of an autonomic healing-based self-management engine. It also explains how to fulfill the tasks in linear time, so that the increase in the source file size does not affect the performance of your system—making the system highly scalable for distributed self-healing systems. This book provides valuable guidance to help you build a self-growing, self -earning, self-healing system that, after development, learns for itself about the IT security vulnerabilities of your organization and fills the holes for future breach prevention.

The First ICST International Workshop on Security in Emerging Wireless Commu- cation and Networking Systems (SEWCN 2009) was held in Athens, Greece, Sept- ber 14, in conjunction with SecureComm 2009. SEWCN 2009 was sponsored by the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social-Informatics and Telecommunications En- neering (ICST). The Workshop Chairs were Qijun Gu from Texas State University- San Marcos, USA, and Wanyu Zang from Western Illinois University, USA. The workshop invited 20 researchers from academia and industry around the world in the areas of networking and security to form the Program Committee. The workshop received nine submissions and each submission received two or three double-blind reviews. The review process started on July 6 and ended on July 27. In all, 21 reviews were received. Based on the review scores and comments, seven papers with average score 0 or better were accepted for presentation and inclusion in the workshop proceedings. The workshop emphasized new ideas for secure architectures and protocols to - hance the emerging wireless systems. The accepted papers cover topics on applied cryptography, key management, vulnerability analysis, privacy, authentication, and intrusion detection for emerging wireless systems. The papers were presented in two sessions, chaired by Nikolaos Preve from the National Technical University of A- ens, Greece, and Theofilos Chrysikos from the University of Patras, Greece.

This book is intended to describe how to leverage emerging technologies big data analytics and SDN, to address challenges specific to LTE and IP network performance and fault management data in order to more efficiently manage and operate an LTE wireless networks. The proposed integrated solutions permit the LTE network service provider to operate entire integrated network, from RAN to Core , from UE to application service, as one unified system and correspondingly collect and align disparate key metrics and data, using an integrated and holistic approach to network analysis. The LTE wireless network performance and fault involves the network performance and management of network elements in EUTRAN, EPC and IP transport components, not only as individual components, but also as nuances of inter-working of these components. The key metrics for EUTRAN include radio access network accessibility, retainability, integrity, availability and mobility. The key metrics for EPC include MME accessibility, mobility and capacity, SGW, PGW capacity and connectivity. In the first parts of the book, the authors describe fundamental analytics techniques, and various key network partitions - RAN, Backhaul, Metro and Core of a typical LTE Wireless Service Provider Network. The second part of the book develops more advanced analytic techniques that can be used to solve complex wireless network problems. The second part of this book also describes practical and novel solutions for LTE service network performance and fault management systems using big data engineering. Self-organizing network (SON) architecture is presented as a way to utilize network performance and fault analytics to enable network automation. SON can significantly improve operational efficiencies and speed up network deployment. This book provides various ways to leverage data science to more intelligently and reliably to automate and manage a wireless network. The contents of the book should be useful to professional engineers and networking experts involved in LTE network operations and management. The content will also be of interest to researchers, academic and corporate, interested in the developments in fault analytics in LTE networks.
