Musings of a Middleton Boy is a unique and introspective collection of true stories, told by a farm-worker's son who was raised in the 1940s and 1950s in a ruggedly beautiful coastal area of rural southwest Wales. Cyril Jones was born early in the Second World War in the parish of Rhossili, the jewel of the Gower Peninsula, which became Britain's first declared Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1956. Growing up in a farm-worker's thatched cottage, without electricity, plumbing or telephone, Jones's life was not without hardship, challenge, joy or adventure. Jones shares his bittersweet memories from his early childhood to the end of his teenage years, and his impressions of his parents' backbreaking struggle to raise their children in a condemned cottage owned by a feudal landlord. In a compelling series of independent coming-of-age stories interlaced with irony and humour, Jones delivers a captivating glimpse into rural life during a period of dramatic political, technological and social change.

This is a collection of short narratives of some of my life’s encounters with people, both socially and in sports events. Life cannot exist without food and drink and so naturally, a few stories on bread, cheese and the amber nectar get an airing as well as my favorite pub. Work and play feature greatly in our lives and I have included some of my contributions, hopefully positive ones, from my life’s travails. For most people their pets are very important to their well being so our now deceased, but amazing Silly Billy the cat, gets his own story. The reader can select a story in the order that catchers their interest. Enjoy.

When the author reached the age of eighty, and was no longer able to travel much, he began to put a few words on paper; his motivation was to keep his mind alert as his muscles weakened. Some of these ‘musings’ attempted to be amusing, without much success. Others were reactions to articles in the Australian newspaper, in the days when he could afford to have it delivered every day. Then he got carried away and began to deliberately wear different hats; a sportswriter one day, a current affairs commentator on another day, an arrogant book-reviewer the next. All the opinions expressed are his own, based upon wide reading and a good memory, so that ideas spawned by a book on theoretical physics began to mix with stories of the Brith Raj in India. And his sound Catholic upbringing, based on his father’s love of Rerum Novarum, began to embrace the results of living for a while in a strongly Buddhist society. So, if you are looking for historical accuracy you will not find it here: he has kept no notes or references; what is in his head has leaked out through his word-processer. It is curiously therapeutic; a bit like going to Confession but not quite.

How Shall I Tell The Dog written by Miles Kington and has been published by Harper Collins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-21 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In this hilarious and moving book, popular English humorist Miles Kington faces cancer and death with his sparkling trademark wit, musing on everything from board games and yodeling to the prospect of being outlived by his dog. When some people are told they have only a few months to live, they might travel around the world or write their memoirs or put their affairs in order. When it happened at the age of 66 to Miles Kington-one of England's best-loved humorists-he did what he did best, offering sharp, wry, laugh-out-loud observations and ideas about his situation. Following his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Kington proposes crazier and crazier ideas for his next book (what he calls "cashing in on cancer") in a series of letters to his literary agent, Gill. And what sort of things capture Kington's attention in his waning months? The sudden grimness of those 1,000 Places to See Before You Die books, for example. (What about 100 Things to Do Before You Die, Without Leaving Home?, he suggests. Instead of bungee jumping and whitewater rafting, learn to whistle with two fingers in your mouth, yodel, or steam open envelopes.) The irony that his dog, Berry, will probably outlive him, or the semi-outrageous idea of creating a funeral video: The answer is quite simple. Make a video in advance of my farewell speech, to be shown on a monitor, from the pulpit, or on a screen behind the stage, or wherever the best place would be. I have already visualised the opening shot. It is of me, smiling ruefully, and saying to camera: "Hello. I'm sorry I couldn't be here in person with you today." Mischievous and utterly original, Miles Kington's words in the face of death are memorable and surprisingly uplifting.
