Buku ini membuat andaian bahawa penggunaan bahasa harian sebenarnya suatu persembahan yang bertujuan menambat hati pelaku komunikasi agar terus bersama-sama untuk menjalin kesejahteraan dalam interaksi. Penelitian yang bertunjangkan analisis persembahan wacana ini melahirkan satu model penyelidikan sosiosemiotik interpersonal. Kemahiran menggunakan angkubah sosiosemiotik didapati mampu menegakkan keharmonian dalam pergaulan manusia. Apabila faktor sosiosemiotik diambil kira dalam kajian komunikasi maka wujudlah konsep komunikasi cakupan luas. Kepentingan komunikasi cakupan luas menjadi semakin nyata apabila komunikasi bersemuka bertukar menjadi konflik dalam pergaulan kerana kesilapan lawak jenaka yang bertentangan dengan nilai budaya-bahasa, taraf sosial atau gender yang dibawa bersama oleh pelaku komunikasi ke dalam persembahan wacana interaktif harian. Perbualan harian, drama pendidikan, madah cinta, pernyataan perasaan berahi dalam wacana teater dan peribahasa merupakan beberapa jenis episod komunikasi yang disentuh dalam buku ini. Dalam interaksi harian, pelaku komunikasi menjadi berkuasa atau sebaliknya semasa merancang persembahan wacana sebagai daya pemusatan identiti sosial. Perbincangan semiotik persembahan wacana ini mengembalikan keindahan berinteraksi sesama rakan dan kesenian berkomunikasi di antara manusia.

The volume seeks to establish socio-onomastics as a field of linguistic inquiry not only within sociolinguistics, but also, and in particular, within pragmatics.
