Buku ini adalah buku pertama dari trilogi Cahaya di Benua Biru yang direncanakan akan diangkat dari kisah pribadi selama menempuh pendidikan di Jerman, berisi lika-liku kehidupan seorang mahasiswa yang mendapat beasiswa DAAD-Aceh Excellent scholarship dalam menjalani kehidupan yang jauh berbeda dengan di Indonesia. Semua hal ditulis secara detil dan menjadi cerminan kehidupan, mengalami hal-hal baru, kebudayaan dan gaya hidup berbeda, musim berbeda, serta kehidupan beragama yang jauh berbeda. Kisah yang diceritakan dimulai dengan kedatangan ke Marburg, sebuah kota kecil di Jerman, dulunya bagian dari Jerman Barat, dan masyarakatnya terkenal sangat ramah. Kehidupan di Marburg, diselingi dengan kisah-kisah lucu, sedih, bahagia, dan penuh harapan. Keakraban dengan orang-orang baru, pun penolakan menyedihkan, baik dengan penduduk asli Jerman, maupun orang-orang asing lainnya dari berbagai negara, menjadi kenangan menarik untuk diketahui. Bunga-bunga harapan disisipi benih cinta diungkap secara alamiah tanpa terkesan memaksa. Fonna Zahra mengisahkan semuanya dengan lugas, paparan yang jelas, sehingga enak dibaca dan seakan-akan pembaca sedang berada di tempat itu. Buku ini sangat baik dibaca bagi seorang yang ingin tahu lebih banyak tentang kehidupan di Jerman, terutama bagi yang ingin menjalani kehidupan di sana, atau melanjutkan pendidikan, atau sekedar jalan-jalan.
