"At one time no less than one hundred ministers requested prayer for the fullness of the Holy Ghost. Appeals have come from other cities for like Conferences, but as yet we have been too much occupied with evangelistic labors to comply with the request. We purpose, D.V., when opportunity offers, to multiply such meetings for the consideration and elucidation of this great theme--The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit. "Mr. Dixon, in editing the book, has thought it best to publish the addresses just as they were furnished by the speakers. Such repetitions as have occurred are necessary to a full understanding of the subject in hand. They are now sent forth in the present form with much prayer that the gift of power through the indwelling of the Spirit may rest upon every reader." --Geo C. Needham, the Explanatory

The brief study of the Acts which follows is really no more than a first glimpse into a land of promise. It is the announcement of a discovery made by the writer that this narrative is a revelation of the Holy Spirit in his relations to believers as Christ’s witnesses, and to the church as the witnessing body; and that, from the opening chapter on, there is a progressive unfolding of this great theme, which it is our humble endeavour to trace. Nothing is claimed for what follows, save a suggestion; like all discoveries, it needs confirmation by a fuller examination and more thorough exploration. But if the hints herein found shall prove grapes of Eshcol, tempting others, who are more competent, to search this goodly land more successfully and thoroughly, and lead God’s people to its more thorough occupation and enjoyment, the desire and purpose of the author will be fulfilled.

The subject of the Godhead and the Holy Spirit of God has proven to be a complicated and profound subject to articulate and/or expound upon. This book will set forth and press the view that the Holy Spirit had not accompanied the giving of the Old Testament scriptures because Jesus had not yet been "glorified" (John 7:39). However, under the New Testament covenant the Holy Spirit is given to dwell within every Christian to aid and strengthen the Christian. This book, hopefully, will cause many of us to reconsider the "Word Only" positions that are often set forth by good and honest brethren. While the Spirit works by means of the Sword of the Spirit, He also at times, works in conjunction with the word of God and directly with and in the individual Christian. The Author of this book alone bears responsibility for any criticism that might be given for the positions set forth herein. However, if any word of favor, Jesus Christ should be given all praise. Afterward, a special thanks to J.J. Turner and Edward P. Myers for their THE DOCTRINE OF THE GODHEAD. The Author used some of their material extensively, along with notes taken under the tutelage of J.J. Turner (1972-1974). Thanks also for Richard Rogers fine material on the Godhead and his THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD. Thanks also for a short section of Jim McGuiggan's piece on BAPTIZED WITH THE SPIRIT. Thanks also to Angie Poole and Chris Lunsford for their tireless efforts in editing. Further notes of appreciation can be seen inside the front cover.
