Non che fosse bravo, carismatico, capace, ironico, profondo, colto, acuto, coinvolgente – come in effetti era – ma che era indubitabilmente onesto, cioè capace di difendere la sua libertà di espressione da qualsiasi condizionamento esterno. Si entrava alle due del pomeriggio e si usciva alle quattro del mattino. Noi, parecchi ragazzini alle prime armi, tornavamo a casa sfatti. Ma Mario non faceva una piega. E anche la sua camicia, spesso a righine, non faceva una piega. Andrea Purgatori Mario era una festa. Trasformava la vita In un titolo. C'era cinema nella sua energia. Marco Zatterin Mario Guerra (Roma, 1922-1991) lavorò all’inizio della sua carriera come pubblicista al Marc’Aurelio, e a Cine Illustrato. Entrato al Momento-sera come redattore nel 1956, ne uscì, dopo averlo diretto per due anni, nel 1972. Lo stesso anno assunse la direzione del Mezzogiorno d’Abruzzo, fino alla fine del 1974. Nel 1977, andato in pensione, continuò a collaborare con diverse testate fino alla fine degli anni ’80. Come successe a molti professionisti cresciuti nella redazione del Marc’Aurelio, fu affascinato dal mondo del cinema, tanto che, anche quando, nel 1957, divenne giornalista professionista, continuò a scrivere soggetti e sceneggiature cinematografiche, nonché testi per la radio e la televisione.

Senza Bavaglio è il saggio più completo che ci sia sul giornalismo in Italia e sull'evoluzione del concetto di libertà di stampa grazie all'esame approfondito di cinquant'anni di lavoro da parte di dottrina e giurisprudenza. Partendo dalla censura preventiva e dal fascismo, il saggio giuridico Senza Bavaglio approda all’articolo 21 della Costituzione che sancisce la libertà di manifestazione del pensiero. In principio il concetto di libertà di manifestazione del pensiero ha trovato il suo fondamento nel diritto dell'informazione. E infatti, per il Luciani «la libertà di manifestazione del pensiero e la libertà di informazione (o dell'informazione) vengono collocate non solo tra i valori fondamentali nell’ordinamento. Ma anche tra quelli che dell’ordinamento sono fondanti». Dopodiché, al centro del dibattito di dottrina e giurisprudenza c’è stato il passaggio dal diritto attivo dell’informazione a quello passivo del diritto all'informazione. Perché la libertà non si misura solo con la possibilità di esprimersi, ma anche - e forse soprattutto - con quella di informarsi e di essere informati. Infatti, occorre poter accedere alle informazioni (diritto negativo) per esercitare i diritti positivi. Infine, vengono esaminate le interazioni tra l’articolo 21 e gli altri articoli della Costituzione. E si approda alla trasparenza dell’informazione amministrativa passando attraverso il lungo dibattito sulle concentrazioni editoriali e sul necessario pluralismo delle fonti informative. And that is probably why he gets entangled in the murder of a wealthy tourist from Bologna who like him is on vacation in the Tremiti Islands. Saru had met the victim the day before during a boat trip and the two had hit it off. To explore their interest in each other further, they planned to meet when back in Bologna since their partners did not like their attraction. But someone put an end to their 'relationship' before it even began. The first to rush to the scene of the crime was none other than Saru and for that reason he ends up among the suspects. Journalists of all the national newspapers arrive on the island but Saru always manages to get a bit more news than the others thanks to his friendship with the marshal of the local station who hails from the same part of Italy as him. The story is peppered with amusing expressions in the Salento dialect related to the food, tastes and customs of that part of Italy surrounded by two seas and contains the right mix of eroticism and suspense. The author reveals the often humorous interplay between fellow-journalists, refers to real news stories and packs the investigation with twists right up to the surprise ending.
