Dieser wegweisende Film ist zum anhaltenden Publikumsliebling geworden und in die Filmgeschichte eingegangen. Die Taufsequenz ist der furiose Höhepunkt dieses monumentalen Filmwerks mit 175 Minuten. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Aufbau sowie die gestalterischen Feinheiten der Taufsequenz aus DER PATE von Francis F. Coppola aus dem Jahr 1972 analysiert. Der Film steht selbstredend als Ganzes und somit die ist dessen Kenntnis die Voraussetzung für die Lektüre dieser Sequenzanalyse. Im Detail wird bei der Analyse zuerst ein Blick auf den formalen Aufbau von Bild- und Tonschnitt geworfen, im Speziellen sind das der Bildschnitt und die damit zusammenhängende Kameraarbeit sowie der Einsatz und das Timing von Dialogen und Musik. Darauf folgend werden die metaphorischen Ebenen aufgeschlüsselt, die man in der Taufsequenz finden kann. Es wird dabei auf die symbolische Bedeutung der Taufe an sich, und im speziellen die Lichtstimmungen in Bezug auf die Dramaturgie eingegangen. Durch die Aufschlüsselung der Elemente bildet sich die Möglichkeit zur differenzierten Interpretation dieser detailreichen Sequenz. Im Resümee werden diese Faktoren nochmals zusammengefasst und in Relation zur Haltung des Rezipienten gestellt.
